work help: i installed portal 2 recently but every time i try to launch

i installed portal 2 recently but every time i try

to launch the game it says materials/console/portal2_product_2.vmf was not found i tried re-installing the game but it didn’t work please help.

Is it a legit or pirated copy? That could make all the difference.

There are quite a few people with the same problem (and a few others posting solutions) if you google it.
