work help: Considering getting a second job, BUT. - Help.com

Considering getting a second job, BUT.

. .

The job I would be applying for starts at 7am, meaning I have to be up by 6:00am.

I work late 4 days a week. Get home at 2 or 3 am. And the 5th day, I’m usually done at 10 or 11:30 pm.

So, here is the problem. The new job I want to apply for a part time, but it’s also the first step in the career path I choose for the future. If I can get the company to know me, there is an even higher chance that I can become a dog care worker by the end of the year. THEN, from there. I can ditch my current job (which I hate) and continue working towards my dreams.

SO, the biggest problem here. . .is am I going to be getting enough sleep. Is it worth it? Should I apply for this job now? Or should I quit my current job and get a job that has hours of 1-9 or 5-9?

I guess I’d base this on how much sleep you get on average as it is aand feel fine with, as well as how is your health (specifically your heart) and are you still of a younger age? I’m merely asking if your body can handle it. If it can, then why not do it? Nothing in life that we want is ever easy to obtain, we must suffer for it usually lol.

“Sleep will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through time of no sleep” (Fabulous furry freak brothers)

Start both jobs then after 10 days ditch the one you benefit from least.

Health is important > 6 - 8 hrs sleep per night is the general rule, but we’re all different. Personally, I could not do both jobs and wouldn’t want to.
If it were me I would apply for this job, keep on w/the one you’re not overly happy with and if you land this new job, leave the other. X

You cannot base future plans on a current plan that will physically kill you.

If you cannot talk the employer into hiring you full-time, I’d suggest staying with your present job.

No . . . this schedule would leave you a physical and mental wreck. There’s got to be other ways of breaking into the field you desire! Perhaps you could take some courses and get some kind of certification!

i’d find a more practical for-the-purpose-of-making-money job that didn’t work such long hours, and i would apply for the new job. getting your foot in the door is really important.

1. health comes first. You’re smart enough to know that personal health reflects performance, and sleep is very important. Take a step back, write it all out on paper, go away for a couple of hours to clear your head then go back and look at it. Inspiration may materialise! And common sense kicks in :) good luck

Of course you have concerns about the amount of sleep you’ll get. All I would say is try it out and then make the right ajustments from there. If that mean leaving the job you hate and moving down a career path you like then that’s what you do if not then not.. Let your experience guide you not your worries
