depression help: I’ve been on prozac for about a year. - Help.com

I’ve been on prozac for about a year.

My depression always gets worse this time of year and I haven’t been intrested in things nor have I had energy or been happy. My psychiatrist gave me a perscription for seroquel xr but my mom doesn’t want me to take it. I want my depression to get better though. Any Advice? Has anyone been on a combination of the two?

When you stop taking risks and allow anxiety to hold you back because you fear making mistakes or being judged…. that makes you a victim… when you are a victim, life is something that happens to you not because of you… and that leads to you only experiencing whatever happens to you and only seeing the negative. THat leads to depression.

If you want to beat depression, you have to change your habits. When you feel anxious or afraid, you must figure out a way to do what you want to do anyway and not let the fear hold you back. When life throws up challenges, you must concentrate on working out alternate plans, adapting, being flexible.

That’s how you beat depression in the long run… taking charge of your life and adapting no matter what comes your way.

when you say “this time of year” do you mean the winter months?
if so, you may have something called SAD-seasonal affective disorder. there are various treatments out there for this other than medication that are very effective, talk to your psychiatrist.

Try slepping with a lamp-light on, the light shining in your face.
Tough to do, but after a while yo’ll get used to it. This might
help you wake up feeling better.
