Which headphones are best for work?

I listen to music quite a bit at work with my iPhone ear buds but am finding them inadequate for blocking out noise (I suffer from misophonia). I’m living in Berlin for the next few months and have found that not only are headphones more expensive here, but the selection is quite limited compared to the United States.

I am looking for a pair of cans for under 150 EUR that sound great, look great, will be comfortable all day and most importantly, block out as much noise as possible. So far I’ve narrowed my shopping down to:

1. Skullcandy Aviator- 100 EUR

2 .Bose AE2- 150 EUR

3. Panasonic RP-HTX7- 50 EUR

What other headphones should I consider? I am leaning toward the Aviators, but am not sure if they’re worth twice the price of the Panasonic cans.

I looked into the Sennheiser HD-25 but the style doesn’t suit me. I’m not a vain person, but I work at a fashion company and need something that looks professional/stylish, not something you’d find at a LAN party. The V-Moda M-80 and LP2 aren’t available here.

I think you’ll have trouble using ear buds to block noise. You either need something that covers your ears OR something that goes into your ears.

It also depends on the type of noise that bothers you.

If it is a constant, repeating sound (engine noise, murmuring, etc.) then noise-cancelling headphones can be quite effective. They don’t have to be expensive.

All that being said, a sensitivity to distracting noise increases a lot when you are anxious. Highly anxious people can find noise distracting when others don’t even notice it. Learning some anxiety management skills will go a long way to helping you manage your annoyance with sound.

You can read reviews on amazon.com and audiophile sites.
I’d be biased toward avoiding the Skullcandy ones simply because the company is more about trendy fashion — which is fine if that’s the type of work you’re involved in too, but it’s more important for work that it’s functional and comfortable.

Then Bose and Panasonic…. again I’d be prejudiced by company. Bose bases their reputation on good speakers, Panasonic is more of a giant corporation. I’d probably want to hook my ears up to the giant corporation so I could hear more of the world, rather than the strictly higher sound quality that Bose might promise.

And that’s the best I’ve got to say, I hope it’s slightly better than nothing…
