Hi thep. The automatic updates were disabled four years ago when CBS took over — and they did it to speed up the site. That’s all I know.
But…but…ahhhhhhh…it’s April Fools Day! ;)
Yes but when you send a reply to a post, they forgot to take the sent message bit.
The point is realy, I already have all the things they talk about.

Sorry thep…you know I love you. I’m not intending to be disruptive here but that’s the first thing that came to mind.
1) There is no mention of your concerns in the CBS reply.
2) You are being directed to enter your reply both above AND below the line.
How can that message be taken seriously? If it’s truly serious, CBS is in a very bad way and I don’t think it’s just this site that is slow.
Kitten, you must not take me serious about behaving yourself.
The thing that is most interesting is that they did respond to my email. We all know that this and other CBS sites are there to make money. If they don’t they will be taken away.
That means that others should be able to get in touch, they must use it in a respectfull manner though.

Oh, good! *tosses confetti* Whew!
I’m wondering if it would be worthwhile to make a poll about the slowness of the site that can then be sent to CBS to show that it’s a common, annoying problem.
I used to think it was my ISP or my computer lagging. This site is so slow sometimes that I log out right after logging in because it’s so dreadful. I don’t mind a small wait for pages to load but this site seems to get stuck in some sort of limbo sometimes.
It’s good to know that CBS is listening (to some extent). Hopefully, they will act as well.
Like you say Kitten, perhaps if more members email them about the problems they might look into it.
I think it should be individual emails to start with, from different members.

I’ll send one off to them.
Thank you. :)
90 per cent of my posts are about how slow bits of it are. the notices function is particularly poor. the site as a whole quick right now, i guess its connnect to when people in the USA wake up and go to work ie heavy use. Some days I just give up.
er it looked to me like you got an automated reply similar to one I got some months back
No, it was not an automated reply. That comes first before they respond with an answer.
The automated one tells you they have recieved your email and it will take at least 24 hours to respond, which they have done.
er I’m reading your original post. that was an automated reply. what was the reply where they specifically addressed your issue.
This was the automated reply -:

I would like to respectfuly ask if some one from CBS can look into the problem.
There are other problems as well, I dont know if you require a different instance report for each one.
Perhaps you can let me know if this is the case.

ok. But I think you have mistaken what you were then sent as a personalised reply. HONEST. read their reply. notice how it vaguely refers to ‘your issue’ and ‘this issue’. I am not seeing any thing that says thank you for pointing out the help.com site is slow, this is caused by (explanation), we can/cannot resolve it because (detailed explanation). I’m seeing a bland form, automated response. Sorry. But no humans have yet been involved in helping you at CBS. I’m a human. notice how specific and irritating and persistant humans are. You are being “cooled out” by a camputer.
I don’t see any indication that it’s not an automated reply. And the amount of money this site generates is not significant, about what one or two people would earn at minimum wage (according to the last CBS person I talked to who was working on trying to increase the ad-revenue.)
But I think you’re right in the idea that trying to cause change is more likely to cause change than not trying anything.
But help.com people already harrassed them to death about speeding up the site, that’s why they broke the auto-updates, killed the chatroom, and then disappeared entirely to avoid such endless harassment. It was brutal how people tried to emotionally pressure the CBS admins into doing stuff. So they did stuff. Apparently it was not pleasing.
I meant computer not a camp communter. Lol. If you won’t listen to me, listen to mindhealer. But generating automated replies doesn’t cause change. generating money would. LOL
It is the way they work. I have gone through their chanels enough times to now how they work.
No matter what either of us think, we have to go through the chanels they provide.
You are though wrong.
The reply in my post is actualy signed by a person. You have though woken me up to the fact that part of the email has been removed. Thanks for that. I will rectify it in a short while.

The slowness of help com website.
I have noticed the website has got slower and slower over the last few months, plus the fact that automatic updates dont automatic update any more.
Generally, the performance is very poor.
So I sent them an email about it, they have responded, their answer follows. I thought everyone should know that it is not CBS and help com that is at fault. Their answer -:

Thanks for the update: I will add that much of that reply (actually all) including using your name AND a signature could be computer generated, but at least it addresses your issue and gives advice! :)

If they truly regard ‘complaints’ as ‘harrassment’, I don’t hold out any hope of this site improving while under the current ownership.
By the way when your bank writes to you the letter is often sent by an invented name/person with an invented signature. Its common.
Tymbus.
I hope you will agree that it is best to try to get CBS to respond to emails asking for help needed to inmprove the websites performance.
We might get no-where with it but trying might do it.
Thank you for your help so far, it is appreciated.
er I kind of agree, let me know when you’ve spoken to anyone at CBS :)

Nope, those are my words. If you had been here you would understand. Direct verbal abuse, nonstop, above and beyond anything that could be considered emotional blackmail or coercion (which I saw a lot of too.)
There may be ways to improve things, but that didn’t work. It was insanity.
They did improve something in response to a emails before. It was… maybe the broken avatars or some major site dysfunction. Whatever it was, people sent emails and then they fixed it and asked if it was fixed. That was a couple years ago. Since then it seems like the mods sometimes talk to admins, and that’s all I’ve seen.

It’s a genuine e-mail. EA games uses the same system I’ve seen e-mails like this before.
CBS just really neglect this site and have only been making it gradually worse and worse. it’s terrible. If only Erik could see it now.
It took 13 seconds to load this page.
The above email, in the post, is the one I recieved from CBS. I will give again email address they use for customer relations for this site.

If any one wants to ask them to help improve the website, then please use it. Remember that the people you ask for help will be just like any other and deserve respect.

I have an idea you are trying to tell me and others something. I fail to see what it is you are trying to tell us.
I already have the information you convey in your reply from -:
http://www.whois.net/whois/help.com
That though is not the address or email for these kind of problems, the one directly above this is the one to use.
neh, I’ve done this before, got a response but never a solution
☠DaNi**YoU☠.
I know, still going to keep on trying from time to time though. Hope some others might help me out.
I dooo
i’ve emailed a admin directly he used to reply but its been what a month or two… no reply… that tells me nothing good
I too am having problems with help.com, it is taking longer and longer to reply to a post and when I click on a post it takes up to a minute to display.
Thai is not my computer, as I have run a speed test whilst waiting as a test, the speed test reports no problem, therefore help.com must be the problem.
Why is help.com so dam slow to respond?
Thank you ☠DaNi**YoU☠and Anonymous.
I think that we all know that the problems of the website are with help com and that CBS are responsable for it’s maintainance.
Like yourselves, I can go to any other website and it works fine. No long extended waiting whilst it loads up. No breakdowns with how it should run and so on.
Getting CBS to to look into it and repairing it, is my main aim.
Acording to my information help com has three servers to cope with quite a lot of traffic, that needs to be increased.
That costs money and CBS nor any other are going to pay for it unless they are going to make it pay for itself.
That leaves it that help com must help to pay for itself.
Other websites sell tea shirts, mugs and much more to help pay for the website. Surley they could use this as well as adverts.
These are just a few thoughts from me. Perhaps help com members can come up with their own.
These can be passed on to CBS, one never knows. If they can see we are trying to help ourselves, they might be more helpful.
its slow but not always
also there is a another problem that in my opinion is worse
some people and it seems more and more, when logging out of help are loosing their accounts
☠DaNi**YoU☠wrote:

Yea, that’s a big and on-going problem that should be fixed ASAP
O.K.
Thanks for the above information. If you or anyone that reads this wants to add more to the list, then please do so. It might be better to try and get the site back to being a bit more reasonable on the way it works. All at one go.
Would CBS be interested in selling the website back to us? Then we’d have control to raise funds within ourselves and get the equipment we need to dedicate to the site.
Just a thought.

i fear Erik is too busy fencing, let’s petition him!
micheal.janssens.
The estimated worth of this website is :- http://www.how-much-is-my-website-wor…
For that sort of money it would be better to start a fresh brand new help com.
just to sell the sites name could be worth more than the advertisement value. this site has incredible potential given its short name that people type in often. worth a lot.
as for the email,
it was fully automated, and it gave an automated help reply. even the signature, all of it. its a genuine, automated, we will brush you off with a general message picked up by a machine seeing you use words like “slow” , email.
Mysitecost says it is only worth 1/4th of that… http://mysitecost.com/help.com
By the way this post is the slowest to post to at the moment and the slowest to open
I think it just needs a jolly good clean.
Has anyone actually dusted around here? No? Tut. And when did anyone last polish the windows or vacuum?
Anyone would think the place hasn’t been cleaned in years….
Get the carpet shampooer out. I’ll hook up the hose and spray everyone down.
hahaha i find it funny that they are blaming java and flash hahahah
actually i have been facing some problems that the css aint loading with the site O.o
rtp.
You have a point there about the css not loading. You might find that could be a browser problem.
Your browser is supposed to load the css first and then the html or whatever. This though is not what happens in reality with all browsers.
Other browsers put all of the css, starting at the top left and then down. Then get the html or whatever and then sort the spacing of the page as it should be shown.
This happens on my own website when using internet explorer 7 and lower. I use wmv video files on my website, the picture quality is better than and lower disk space than other formats.
Other browsers need a plugin to play these files.
I think we both know about the problems with the things you mention, can exsist but in this particular case we all know the fault lies with Help com and CBS.
Sorry rtp.
It should be “it puts the html or whatever first, starting at the top left and then down. Then gets the css, then sorts the spacing of the page as it should be shown.
ahhh..late again lol….
after reading through all that, the question that pops into my head is, if CBS closes the site down, where would we go? I mean I for one know I would never be able to get in touch with you all again even given my often absentee presence…..
The URL Help.com is far too valuable just to close down.
It could be used by so many companies, as a help system for their product.
Cant promise but I don’t think the intention is to close help com.
I have just received an acknowledgement from CBS that they have passed the concerns in this post to the propper departments, to be looked into.
If anything comes from it, I will inform everyone here.
Thanks for your efforts thep.
It’s good to know that someone is working hard at trying to get things fixed.
Snap!
Maybe the issue with the site is that they’re using the wrong tea in tech support??
I will send them an email telling them to get rid of the earl grey. I will tell them the advantages of Brook Bond pyramid tea bags.
I don’t think they are ready for real tea leaf tea yet.
I think I had better let the post drift back to its topic. I don’t want to get banned.
Jolly good idea thep!
