Writing poems for my girlfriend?

I want to, but at the same time I think it’s a bad idea. I’ve written poems for people before, but I wouldnt want to unless it can be absolutely amazing, otherwise it’s like I’m just trying to hard. I don’t want to come off as desperate or clingy, but I do want to do it.

Examples are located on my profile.

We’ve only been dating for a little bit over 3 weeks, but we do spend a lot of time together. I’ve told her that I write poems, but she has never asked me to share any with her, but when I asked if she’s interested in poetry she said yes.

try something light. like, instead of a poem confessing undying love or something write a cute little poem about something you like about her.

think of it like… rather than a big chocolate cake of a poem, a light slice of cucumber of a poem. simple and fresh so you dont creep her out :P

gotcha. Might need to work on writing about things that don’t matter a lot.

Any examples?

Would something like this be too much?

I like it when you look at me
With that stare that sets me free
That sweet look I get from you
Makes me sure of what I want to do
Love it when you look my way
A hug from you could make my day
You bring me to a place so new-
I’m glad to say that I’m with you

I don’t want to mess anything up by being overly clingy or anything. Maybe I should just kinda be distant for a few days before I slip this in her locker or something?

Just be honest and make it come from the heart. You don’t have to be a Romeo. This is such a sweet thing to do.

To be honest I think after 3 weeks theres a chance of it coming off creepy, but that depends on your relationship. I’d say if you do write a poem make it jokey and self aware. I’d write a funny OTT one that makes you sound like a complete stalker/hopeless romantic/psycho (in a jokey way). But thats just me, if you wanted to do something that was trully deep and meaningful maybe tone it down a little seeing as it’s only 3 weeks in. So yeah my advice is either hillariously OTT or serious and subtle.

I’ll wait until it’s been a few months. I don’t really do jokey poetry it’s not really my thing. I don’t really know how our relationship is to be honest so I won’t risk it.

Notjokey poetry, thats just tacky and cheap. I mean just a little satrical, the same but with a touch of psychosis or another jokey theme (but presented in your usual way). Yano so the whole I love you comes across, but in a funny and quirky way that is still your own. By the way your poems are awesome, I can reall feel the passion in them.

I would suggest not having a girlfriend they just end up hurting you. but if you must have a girlfriend I don’t think poetry could hurt. I agree that you shouldn’t confess your love or anything this soon, but write about her beauty or something. I wish you luck with your girlfriend.

You are adorable and you have your heart on your sleeve. I suggest you write the poems and keep them in a diary and wait a little while until you know where this relationship is going. If you two become serious and are still together you can give them to her in a bound book as a gift for Valentine’s Day. If she isn’t as serious as you and you break up keep the poems and keep writing poems. This is how most art and literature is produced by someone as talented as you - creating beauty. You are a star.
