I can relate to our situation. I’m finishing up my Masters in 2 weeks. When I was in high school I did about two sports a season, plus a travel soccer team, homework, dating, you name it. It was overwhelming I always felt tired and that the day just wasn’t long enough. I read this article about efficient studying and gave it a try. First, you find a place unrelated to anything else to study at. For instance if you study at the dinner table, in bed, in front of the TV it doesn’t work because your mind already associates certain activities with those places (bed for sleep),(kitchen table eating), etc.. So first find a place that you don’t have an association with. Then decide that you will only do homework and study there. That means if you start to think or do something unrelated to what your doing move don’t stay in that spot let people know when you are there not to bother you. It takes awhile but if you stay at it after 2 or 3 weeks (if you really are trying to follow the system) you mind starts to have an association with that place. You accomplish more work in a shorter amount of time and are more focussed. I started this my senior year and it really worked after about a month. I used it all through college where I was on a Division III sports team, and taking a full class load.
I started by deciding I would do nothing but homework for the next 5-10 minutes. Then I’d take a break and move from the spot. I gradually added on where nothing but homework for the next 20..30..40 minutes anyways after awhile I got to the point I spent 20-30 minutes doing homework and studying that used to take me days. I noticed it also helps if you can make the time you study the same time every day. Like 6:30-7pm every night etc…
