house help: Can I use the gas grill on the porch if I have vinyl siding? - Help.com

Can I use the gas grill on the porch if I have vinyl siding?

Will it melt my house or catch fire? I can put the grill 6 feet from the house, but the porch also has a vinyl ceiling.

I don’t think I would. The heat from the grill, if nothing else, will dry out the vinyl ceiling and cause it to be brittle and crack.

I think I’d move it to the yard, just to be on the safe side!

It depends how low the ceiling is and how hot the grill gets. Could you use it out in the yard instead?

I have a front porch but no front yard, and I have a back yard but no back porch. Just wanted to be able to sit in the shade while cooking outside. I guess probably not a good idea.

You might be better off doing it in the back yard and asking friends if they have any of those big parasol thingies to sit under. Although you’d have to be careful they don’t catch fire too! Lol
But at least you can move those things around so they’re not in direct heat.
