it means that the actual music file was moved from where you had it before. usually you can double-click on the exclamation point and find the file again.

wow, thanks for replying so quickly! this is the first post for me.

i had just bought the album. it went straight to my itunes library. i then put it into a playlist file. my nano should sync automatically. not sure why the songs have gone somewhere else. yes, i double clicked on it and yes, it told me where it is - although i’m not sure exactly where that is. i’m a bit of a novice when it comes to stuff like this. i’ll keep working on it (it’s the time it uses up that ticks me off more than anything - this is usually quick and easy)

thanks again, i’ll keep trying!

s :)

When you download the music from iTunes, Itunes more than likely downloaded the music into the default folder. The default folder may be in a different location than where you keep your primary music.
To understand this better open up iTunes.
Go to “Edit”
Go to “Preferences”
Go to “Advanced”
Here you will see the target folder under the heading “iTunes media folder location”
This is where iTunes will have downloaded your music.

Here is my advice:
Locate and group ALL of your music into one single folder.
Uninstall then reinstall iTunes library.
Open the fresh iTunes and re-set the target folder location (the folder in which all your music is located).
Then import the music folder into the library.
It is good to go through and set all of the prefrences in the “Edit” section.
Once done, you will get better results from the iTunes Library and the iTunes store.
