Because detections systems are at an all time high. In the old days people just died of “old age”, they didn’t need a reason or $250,000 worth of tests and diagnostics… they just hid autistic children in homes and called them mentally ill.

This was the answer I was going to give, was just waiting for a dumb answer from the poster to give it.

I think with cancer, diet plays a major part (along with pollution and high stress levels) and with autism, many people are having children later in life and that increases the risks.

Many older people are have autism and have and will never been diagnosed.

I think the numbers aren’t that much increased it’s just that we aren’t being killed off more regularly with Great Wars or Epidemics. Perhaps I shouldn’t speak too soon…..

That’s a valid point. Sorta throws off in future data, but the data from that website predates the tsunami.

Cancer is caused by a bunch of awful things that humans do nowadays, like using toxic chemicals in products, eating meat, using pesticides and growth hormones on crops, and having super-high stress levels.
But autism is just a unique way of EXISTING. It causes problems only because society is structured for people without autism.
My sister says that there is already a cure for cancer, but the government has it “hushed up” for a reason I don’t remember. Maybe it’s true…!

Could be, there’s a good reason to hide cancer an AIDS/HIV cures.

The answer for the increasing cancer disease (but in the Western and developed world only!) is simple: People get older and older because of the progress in disease control.
Some decades ago the reasons for the most part of deaths were all kind of infections, for reason of this most people died before the age of 40 or 50.
And nowadays, because of the triumphal march of antibiotics, the cancer disease has much more time to develop its destructiveness in the human body. That’s why Cancer and Alzheimer are on the increase.

The reason for the increasing Autism diagnosis is more a technical one: The actual increasing “psychologizing/ psychiatrization” of children’s and people’s social behavior. Times ago Autistics have been just called (and mostly socially accepted) as misfits and odd persons — but these days it’s becoming a disease.

I don’t think autism is a diesease I think it is termed as a behavourial/social or learning difficulty.

The more diseases we cure the longer we will have to support people who can no longer work or contribute to society and the worse the economy will be. Do we really want a bunch of 120 year old people in hospital beds costing us $10,000 a day?

IDK know what the technical is, but I’ve heard it referred to as a disease on television plenty of times.

Here are two definitions: none of them use the word disease. I have NEVER heard of it described as a disease in books on on TV.

http://www.autism.org.uk/about-autism…
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism
Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior
