hmmm… never thought of that. i can’t donate my blood coz i’m gay so they won’t accept my blood.
i think you do have to register as a donor, at least in my part of the country. i’m also registering as an organ donor. don’t know how that’s gonna turn out. but i basically put in there you can take whatever you want :P

whaaaat that’s dumb. I’m sorry dude :( i know the UK lifted the ban but sadly canada hasn’t… but they’re toeing around changing it from a ban to a time deferral so we’ll see…
I plan on donating everything I can. whenever, however I die, i want them to take everything they can. eyes, skin, organs, do they take bone tissue? i know they take marrow… i mean, i certainly wont be needing it all after i’m dead! i can just be cremated after. :P

yeah, it is kinda stupid. i’m only tryin to help people but if they won’t accept my help then there’s nothing i can do about it. i believe they do take bone tissue donation.
I am quite sure if the donor centre staff sees you are drunk they will not allow you to donate anyway because it will most likely cause you to faint. Alcohol dehydrates and so does donating blood, thats why they ask you to drink water before giving blood. The cookies and juice are to replace lost sugars quickly. They are cheap too.
I guess you can donate any organ if it will save another life so long as it doesn’t affect your life (e.g. kidney). This is also assuming you are compatible with the recipient.
You can certainly register as an organ donor and they will take a blood test to keep on record for when a compatible recipient requires it. They will call you then. This often happens with bone marrow donors.
They screen all donated blood so it is unlikely the alcohol tainted blood would make it to a patient. They would simply throw it out. As for the cookies and juice, they are cheap ways of quickly getting simple sugars into your body. In that “vein”, Twinkies should also do the trick. :)
I don’t really know about the donation thing. I guess with things like a kidney and skin, you could volunteer as a live donor. You could probably go to any hospital and ask.

It’s only a deferral here in the UK too, not a complete ban lift.
I sat and ate tons of biscuits after I gave blood, because I nearly fainted as soon as I stood up lol. Did they offer to let you hold the bag of blood? I did and it felt really strange.
haha i didnt hold my bag of blood, no, i just ambled over to the cookies and juice and snacked away for a few minutes :P

I donated blood for the firs time today and on the walk home, random questions came to mind. Some were, if you donate blood while very very drunk, will whoever get the transfusion feel some mild effects of alcohol? (that is purely hypothetical, i can’t imagine anyone actually trying to do that to someone) how does one go about donating an organ? for example, lets say i wanted to donate a kidney. do i have to be dead first? can i go to some hospital and ask them to take one as a donation? do i have to register as a donor and them call me to say they want a kidney? lastly, why cookies and juice? why not twinkies or fruit salad or a sandwich?
if anyone has any clever, amusing, or actual insights, do share! :D
