Im addicted to prescription pills.

I recently got a bottle of hydrocodone. and i pop about 5 a day. Im so ashamed that im addicted to these pills. My head is tring to talk my self into throwing them away or flushing them. but there’s a part that says i should ween off of them. I guess im just looking for encouragement to DEFEAT this addiction.

“Hydrocodone addiction is a growing crisis in the United States. … In fact, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration believes hydrocodone may be the most abused prescription drug in the country. Nationwide, its use has quadrupled in the last ten years. … Hydrocodone is structurally related to codeine and is approximately equal in strength to morphine in producing opiate-like effects.”

Ok… So you know this. Get up from your computer and flush the rest down the toilet. Don’t think about it. Don’t ween off them. Just flush them. Then come and tell us. You can do it! I believe you can.

Go do it now.

This type of addiction is much more common than many people realize. Just because they are over the counter does not mean that they are not highly addictive.

Many addicts feel a sense of shame around their addiction, it is great that you have asked for help. This window of oppertunity is usually quite small before the cloud of fear returns and the justification and rationalization of the addiction comes storming back.

My advice would be to go to NA (its free, google your nearest meeting) or a treatment centre if you can afford it, IF you find now you want to stop that actually you cant.

I am an alcoholic in recovery. The reason I could not stop on my own was I did not have enough life skills to live life on lifes terms (sober) nor sufficent understanding of myself and my make up. I got that from a treatment centre and the fellowship of AA. I could not have done it alone, I had tried so many times to quit on my own and failed

Remember the consequences of addiction only get worse over any given period of time, never better.

Yea flush your pills, hydrocodone is not very strong relative to stronger opiate painkillers, and therefore withdrawal won’t be dangerous, but maybe uncomfortable. You don’t need to ween off though it’s just vicodin. If you feel like you have a problem go seek help.

YAY!!! That is great! You took the first step. Now.. The hardest part is picking up that phone. Just talk to someone. They don’t know you. So.. just tell them what happened. We all need some good advise sometimes. You can do it.
