My teacher is horrible at teaching.

She’s foreign but after getting used to her accent I still find that she cannot teach anything. Math is, and always has been my favorite , and best, subject. I always had 85+ marks, even without trying. I have a 68 in her class, not only because she doesn’t teach the information, but because she adds things on tests that weren’t even in the textbooks. I have no problem this year with the change in work load, exhibited by the fact that without her class I have an 85 average with classes including physics, English, and programming. She does questions in the textbook without explaining how to do them, what she is doing, exceptions to rules, or why she does certain things. I bombed a test because she did not teach us to factor first. Be aware that I am now reading the textbook and getting significantly higher marks (+10-20%) but am still unhappy about the wasted class time and the scolding I get for not paying attention when she’s “teaching”. Because I’m reading the textbook. How can I possibly help myself learn, other than the textbooks?

cheat sheet: try asking her what is the best book for external revision. most of the time teachers will recommend the books that they themselves use.

find a student in class that does get A’s and study with them, or at least see how they are handling the “language barrier”. At the end of the day, she has her degree and a decent job, you are still trying to get through with (high school?) so bear with it and good luck.

The job of the student is to learn from the good teachers and in spite of the bad ones. Rather than focusing on her incompetency, learn from the book and pretend to pay attention in class.
