health help: Well, i hate my job.i work at an nursing home as an nurse aid - Help.com

Well, i hate my job.i work at an nursing home as an

nurse aid (n.a.).head nurses treat us n.a.’s like crap.we are over worked and so under paid.nurse aides have to care for 12 to 24 patients each.with all the extra we have to do.we make 8.50 an hr.and are forced to take an hour lunch break.my check is awful every two weeks. ranges between 4 to 5 hundred dollars even when we go back to our regular 30 min.lunchbreak.we get yelled at and talked about by every department, even the patients yell at us and we are demanded to do this and that.we work with very sick people.people with all kinds of sickness and disease.we risk our lives and health everyday working in skilled facilities and hospitals.i just wish we weren’t looked down on and kicked around by our co-workers.and whats worst is our pay.we are nickled and dimed.we have noone to stand up to speak out or up on our behalf.we c.n.a.’s have tried but to no avail.noone will listen because we are so below them in many ways.one administrator replied ,nurse aids are just **** on bottom of my shoe.

I can only imagine a few workplaces that are worse than nursing homes!

Yes, the RNs like to lord it over you. At least the crappy ones.

You have a choice. You can stay in a place where you’re the low person on the totem pole, or you can get your own RN designation. I know that you can become an RN in two years.

I do admire and respect you for the work you’re doing. It’s a really tough–and generally thankless–job. But without you, being stuck in one of those nursing homes would be a living hell!

Thank you for what you do!

I know how you feel, I’m a personal support worker-same as a c.n.a-and we are treated the same. The thing is, if not for the health care aides, these homes would close their doors tomorrow. WE keep the doors open, we do the most care and without us, who is going to do the job? Not anyone with an ‘R’ and an ‘N’ in front of their names. No they’re too good for that, actual hands-on nursing of the frail and the elderly and sick. My best advice to anyone thinking of becoming a nurse’s aide; DON’T DO IT!!! If you want to be in nursing, go get your R.N!!! Maybe in ten years when there is a shortage of nursing aides people will think twice about how they feel about them and start showing respect for the profession and not refer to them as **** on the bottom of their shoes.
