I’m being sued by a movie company.

I’m 14, and one day (2 months ago) I went with my buddy to a movie rental place. I won a free movie for 2 days, from a gunball game. So I never got around to watching the movie (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The begining), and it’s been a few months.

They JUST NOW got around to telling me the movie is due, by sueing for EMBEZZLEMENT. They’re sueing for a total amount of $200.42 (USA currency).
And what worse is they’re sueing my mom since I got the movie in her account.

They also say they can charge 5 years of prison

I know it was wrong to not return it, theres no excuse, but aren’t they going a bit too far? I’m still a minor and the one who acually rented it. They can’t blame my mom.

I still have the reciete (However you spell it) and everything.

So, do you think its going a bit too far?

And is there a way for them to push the charges (Money and Prison if she gets prison time) from my mom to me when I turn 18?

She is responsible for your actions until you are 18. How did her account get in the gumball machine? Gunball? I would argue that the employees rented a movie to an underage person and you are not responsible for jack squat. They will not put anyone in jail, they just want a ******** of money… that is why they have the game there in the first place.

If your mother calls the company headquarters and actually talks to someone whose head is not buried in their hindquarters this whole thing could go away. Seriously the movie is worth $4.99. http://compare.ebay.com/like/29065408…

Find i good lawyer that can find anything about that company. Take your story to the media, the public will look at the company really bad and will add pressure to them. Use your local news station, twitter and everything that can get your case attention.
It’s just what i would do. The media love this kind of suits.

They just closed the last movie rental place in my town. Blockbusters is now a Dollar Tree. They really are going down, the only place to rent a movie here is Redbox and you have to use a credit card and they just take $1 a day until you return it.

Is the letter from them or a law firm? If they choose to sue you the notice will be delivered by an officer of the court (cop).

Send the movie back by certified mail, return receipt. Have your mom enclose a letter than tells them to go to hell.

They are trying to stiff your family and there is no way in hell that people go to prison for not returning some old-a$$ video.

Tell ‘em that if they think they have a case, to do their worst–but to be prepared to be countersued into bankruptcy!

The movie company can not legally rent a R rated movie to anyone under the age of 17 without expressed permission by an adult. Your mother wasn’t there nor was she aware of said movie being rented. I would politely point this fact out to them. Even have your lawyer (with Mom’s permission this time) draft the letter for you. Their stance should take a quick 180 degree turn lest they be counter sued for negligence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
