Mind help: Focus and concentration. - Help.com

Focus and concentration.

When I sit and study, I get the urge to get up from my chair every 5 minutes. My mind is distracted. I am not able to concentrate for longer periods. Please share some tips on how to build endurance with study periods.

I think you should maybe make a recording of the material and play it while driving or walking. Maybe you just don’t like to study while sitting still.

Are you able to study while listening to music? Maybe have a snack while you study. That’s what I had to do when I studied. I couldn’t just confine myself with no noise and stare at a book unless it actually interested me.

Hi, I was just looking for you :)

I think that the best way is to stop and reflect on what you learned every so often. I found I could never study that well in school, but when I was learning outside I could focus really well if I could discuss it with someone after I learned a bit. Even maybe just watching a youtube video about it and eat a snack while you watch, after you read a little.

If you can find a classmate to discuss with, that can also help, as long as they are also dedicated and inquisitive.

Hope some of those ideas can help :) Talk to you soon!

Also sometimes I can study better someplace like a mall food court because it’s noisey and there are other people. Quiet is not always helpful.
