Thought help: I’m a little scared right now, so if someone could just - Help.com

I’m a little scared right now, so if someone could

just tell me that I shouldn’t be and that there is nothing to be worried about, that would help I think. I’m all alone in my family’s house in the woods, and it is past the middle of the night and I thought I heard someone come home, but I checked and there was nobody. Then I heard something upstairs, I think it was a rodent, but I am just creeped out and wish someone was here. I’ve always felt safe here because it is far away from everything, but I’ve been hearing scratching in the walls and there are mice and larger things and one of my only major fears is rabies. I’m annoyed at myself for wasting a post on this, but whatever.

Houses in the woods become homes to mice, chipmunks, squirrels and even raccoons. Don’t worry. Make yourself a cup of hot chocolate and watch some television!

you shouldn’t be worried, there is nothing to be worried about make sure to lock all the doors and windows and call the cops (911)US if something happens and call one family member to comfort you while you are home alone.

There are definitely a bunch of critters in the walls. Fortunately, my family is moving soon.

I don’t usually get freaked out, especially by this sort of thing, but there is something very unnerving about the sound of clawing in the wall next to your head by some unknown creature of the night.

I stayed in a hut once and there were so many mice in the walls! It’s the worst. And once I woke up with a rat in my box spring gnawing on the wood in there! But, I’m pretty sure rats and squirrels are way more terrified of us, and they would never intentionally come close to a warm body. Just tuck yourself in your sheets really well, keep on a light, and go to bed. They won’t come into the light, and they won’t get you! I promise!
If by annnnny tiny chance anything comes into your room, the moment you make a move it would be out of there in a split second. When that rat realized he was in a box spring, he ran like lightning away from me! If anything, remember rodents are kind of cute. I mean… people BUY hamsters to play with them. Rats and mice are almost the same!

Sometimes, being alone in a house in the middle of the night, it only takes one strange noise to put our minds into an apprehensive state. We might possibly become overly alert and hear things that we might not have otherwise heard. That’s just a theory of mine, however. I do not disbelieve that these noises you heard were real noises.

I occasionally will hear funny noises at night coming from between the walls in my apartment. I’m not sure what it is - most likely mice. It doesn’t bother me too much as long as the noise doesn’t get worse or whatever it is doesn’t get inside.

You should get yourself a good mouse hunting cat, or just a cat that will take care of pests altogether, should any ever invade your house.

Thanks guys, you made me feel better. Animals don’t bother me usually, it just sounds like there’s such a lot of them - and larger than your average mouse. I think you hit the nail on the head mills. I love cats, I’m trying to get a stray to like me enough to stick around currently.

I live 30 miles out of town, and even now -45 years old- I sometimes get scared in the middle of the night because of all the critters that live around here.

Sometimes I hear cats run across the roof -sounds just like a little kid up there! We get mice in the vents, and it’s impossible to tell what room the noise is coming from. Bugs flying against the window panes sounds like a person tapping on the glass.

Ugh, I actually just like ten seconds ago heard something crawling around in the other room. I feel for you Dragon Lady. Okay well I just locked my bedroom door so no rabid rodents are tasting me tonight.

Where are the mouse traps when you need them?

I’m trying to teach my cat to attack bugs and such but he’s either not interested or has a heart for them.

I can’t do mouse traps, I just feel so bad for them reaching for that bit of cheese then SMUSH. I’ve never been able to teach a cat anything, I think they are secretly here just to observe us lol.

I don’t think I have ever seen a dead mouse caught in a mouse trap before. Most of them were careful enough to somehow retrieve the cheese and escape death.

You’re right. Cats will do as they please most of the time.

Crafty mice, haha you’re probably creating a super breed by weeding out the dumb ones with mouse traps.
Good night.
Thanks for making me feel better :)

Haha I have no trouble with snakes oddly enough. They occasionally find their way into my house, and I take them out for my mom when my dad isn’t there.

Rabies is rare these days. The cure to it is known, as far as I remember, so it’s not something you have to worry about =)
However, that night’s over already ^^

Yeah, it is rare, it just freaks me out because once animals or people demonstrate the symptoms of rabies, they are for all intents and purposes - dead. There is no known effective treatment for people with symptoms of a rabies infection. They just go insane and die, and it can take a while. There is a vaccine though, so hurray!
Thank you for responding :)

I listen to music at night so that I don’t focus on the sounds that go bump in the dark, hearing a twig break in daylight is not as loud or important.

That seems like putting a blindfold on so that you can’t see potential threats, I’m not sure it would put my mind at ease, but I’ll give it a try.
Thanks :)

I don’t know why that would help. Why can’t I get a simple phone call out to report to the FBI big criminals whereabouts? Why can’t I report online I need too? Why cant any link on the Internet work when I try to get help, or do something u need to? Why is my Internet down for two months but my provider says its not?

Cats are a good idea. Not only do they keep critters away, but there’s just something calming and protective of knowing you have a pet with you that will, if youve got cats like mine, follow you all around the house.
