I live alone with very little human contact as a house

watcher deep in the woods, satellite feeds me,there is no broadcast, cable, landline,or cell signal. When night falls it’s as dark as the devil’s soul,on clear nights the moon and stars provide visual comfort at the cost of second glance shadows.I can’t sleep until it comes to the point of total physical exhaustion,my mind never turns off, when my eyes close dreams start,I wake up on the hour to check the clock. From alcohol to otc meds, books, warm baths, and natural remedies,I have tried them all…Insomnia is my strange bedtime fellow.

Are you lonely? Do you sleep in the day?

I’m normally helped by having a fan turned on every night. The cold helps my mind and body slow down (my body is normally too active), and the constant noise is soothing, in my opinion.

To this website? Just look around, join discussions if you can, talk to people. =) You can click on a username to see that person’s profile, then go from there to see what other posts they have. Or you can leave messages to users directly in their “Shoutbox” by clicking on the microphone right of their username here, or by following the link on their profile. If you hold your cursor over the buttons on this page next to other users, the text box explains what each button does.
It’s pretty simple and straightforward; you’ll catch on if you stay for a few days. Welcome ^^

It does take getting used to. I live 30 miles from town, and it took about two months to get really used to. For the first couple of weeks, it seemed as silent as a graveyard. The only noise would be a coyote or someone’s dog way off in the distance or the house itself creaking and settling.

Then, it slowly got noisy. I could hear the crickets and bullfrogs and mice in the vents. The sound of a car out on the road would make me anxious and nervous.

Now once in a great while I still get a little creeped out. Usually on nights DH is working and I’m home alone. I start hearing every little thing again, or not hearing anything at all which is just as eerie as ever.

But most of the time, it’s just “home” and I sleep just fine. Give it some time, and you’ll get used to it, too.

A good an very helpful method asleep quickly (even if you don’t feel tired) is the following one:

• Lie down and close your eyes.
• Roll up constantly your eyballs as high as you can – while keeping the eyes closed!

You will asleep in less then 15 minutes, without fail!
It’s not painful, but the first times it irritates a bit. But hold on and concentrate solely on this exercise. There is no health risk at all.

The scientific background is:
While we sleep, our eyes turn completely upward in a way we can not deliberately bring it. But the above exercise sends a clear signal to the brain: “Oh, I (nearly) sleep.” And brain can fall asleep.

Try it out, several times, it’s really helpful!

[Good feedback from other help.com users! It works!]

Wow, what a gift this circumstance presents you ColdE. You use some good imagery in your language. Use this time and start writing fiction.

By the way, the insomnia thing? Stop trying to fall asleep. Stay up late, all night if you don’t feel tired. You will be a bag of exhaustion the next day, but the rule is, you have to stay awake until the next night. Keep doing that and you will start sleeping again, or you will turn into the Joker.
