File conversion for mac I need to start using excel and word a lot more for school and I use office 2004 for mac.

Some files I download, and send to others, are unable to be opened because I/they need a converter. Here are my questions: 1.) How do I download the converter and which one do I need? 2.) Will the converter allow me to open(and read) ALL files from windows 20042011? 3.) Am I better off just buying and using office 2011 even with my limited use of the apps? 4.) What critical components or apps do I need to avoid having problems creating, sending, reading, storing, etc… files from excel and word for office 2000n? I understand that new Apps and updates are always coming out so just give me the current necessities…. Thanks for the answers

You don’t need any converter.
But word and excel files can be open only if there is a word or excel program (of the same version or newer) on the computer of others.

You can convert word and excel files also into PDF files (use the command for PDF on your printing command on your mac), and in any case this should be readable for all others.
