I’d so appreciate some input.

I’d like to be extremely lean, at the least thin, and the most with a bit of muscle (not a female bodybuilder, but you get the idea). I am currently 143 pounds and 5 foot 9 inches, and female. I’m just a little flabby on my legs and arms, but my belly certainly protrudes. Ooh, also, I’m 19. Can somebody give me an idea of what weight I should be, or exactly what legnths I should go? My plan is to jog in the morning and swim in the afternoon, but I’m not sure it’s enough. I’m sorry this is such a long post, it’s just that this is my second day of summer vacation and I’d like to get right on it. Thank you for your time/tips!!

try not to overeat? Sometimes when you eat you pause for a while. that’s an indication that you’re not hungry anymore and many people miss it. Jogging and swimming is great, but you also want to make sure that you sustain it. It’s not just quality but also quantity so you want to do it for a while. Not just jogging around the block though it is a good start. Swimming is good, but you have to think. Will you actually do it and keep it sustained? My suggestion is to do plenty of curl ups because in order to rid yourself of fat you need to exercise the part of you that you want the fat to leave and build up muscle. Because you said that you don’t want to become muscular, if you gain a two-pack, four-pack, etc. you can just eat it away.

At your height and weight your BMI (Body Mass Index) is 21.1. Normal is between 18.5 and 24.9. Being female you also have a higher body fat percentage than a man (boobs are fatty tissue). A BMI of 21 is close to ideal for you. I honestly wouldn’t worry about losing more weight, but you might want to tone up a bit. Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat so don’t simply go by the scale. Instead, keep track of certain areas (upper arms for example) and trim those areas.

Light weight training with high reps will tone your muscles. Swimming, while not a particularly good fat burning exercise (it’s difficult to sweat in the water) is nonetheless an excellent toning workout. Think of how Olympic swimmers look.

everyone’s body is different, so its hard to say what weight you “should” be. though if you are wanting to lose weight/ get your body in shape i’d suggest any type of cardio, yoga and pilates. also eating healthy will help you a lot. and some weight training would be great. having more muscle in your body will help you burn fat instead of storing it.

For diet, I’d say try to eat healthy. Lord knows that’s hard to do but, try to ease your way into it and you’ll be able to stick to it longer. Also try not to consume too much food a day, especially if you’re trying to get lean. Carbohydrates cause that protrusion in your stomach, and the flab in your legs and arms. Eat less junk a day. Like I said before though, ease your way into it. I mean try to eat less food/junk daily.

For exercise, Running and swimming is great cardio. However, you need to do muscular endurance exercises as well to develop muscle, and become toned. Don’t worry about bulking up, women don’t have enough testosterone to do so. So in addition to running and swimming, I would definitely give yoga/pilates a try, it’s amazing. Consistency is key though, as far as getting into shape you need to be comitted to working out if you want to change. Furthermore, do not give up when you don’t immediately see results.

Good Luck!
