I truly cannot possibly fathom believing in any god
at this point of my life but truly and honestly love my gf, however she says she will not marry someone who isnt catholic despite what we both read at this link http://forums.catholic.com/showthread.... which makes me angry (stupid I know) but its not in anyway fair to not be able to be with someone you love because of religious interference. there is no question here, just need help with the anger and methods of convincing myself there is some god

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
In what way does she want you to commit to god? like, does she just want you to go to church with her? or start reading the bible hardcore? or what?
Simple choice
1) lie actually not to bad choice in that you will get found out but catholics can not divorce it would be two late
2) Find god, not too difficult my mum was fundamentalist atheist, she even did a degree in comparative religion so she could argue with silly religious people in their own lingo. I can see that “god” is actually only a linguistic thing, that is you can easily rationalize a god even as an atheist. I believe we are all gods and then found their is a name for this Pantheism. However she wants you to find her god.
3) Run a mile. Big sea lots of fish, no one expects the spanish inquisition.
I suppose it wasnt really anger with her just more anger at myself for not being able to make her happy. and very sad
You are better off without her; now go find a good agnostic girl.
well its ony going to be hard to find god if u think it is. if you look at it as an actual possibility, it will be easy. Many people need facts to believe, and there are a lot. Find a website that gives facts that god is real, and then hopefully you can at least half-believe. If you show her that you are making an honest effort, that will make her happy :)
Best of luck!

I suppose in some regard that is true. but I’ve already seen so many facts disproving most of those “facts” and i find it so hard to believe in a floating man in the sky, that the earth is only 4000 years old and that there is not possible some life on another planet in this infinite universe.
What you’re talking about is fundamentalist there, not Catholic.
That aside, if this girl really loves you, she’ll accept you for who you are. I don’t mean to sound insulting here but if she’s too ignorant to realise that you don’t have to be a Catholic to be a good person then she’s really not worth it.
Hopefully it is just a genuine, but poor approach to do what she might believes necessary to “save your soul”…

Then you must live a lie, go to Church with her.
sorry but the deck is stacked against you.
there are no facts or logical arguments that prove God. if you want to believe, then you will. that’s the bottom line there.
however, being a catholic (or any kind of christian) is much more than just believing in God. and that’s where IMO, the problems really set in.
my first real gf was a church girl. I tried to believe, but I just couldn’t do it. eventually I figured, if she really wants me, then she’d love me as I am. I wasn’t going to change in order to fit her idea of perfection. I don’t recommend you do it either.
Religous interference? She has a belief system, religious or not, that you don’t share. Either you adjust, she adjusts, or you both adjust to make it work. If you both aren’t willing to find some common ground, sianara.
Only God can give you true faith in Him. You can’t drum it up yourself, you can only fool yourself into thinking that you believe only to be shot down when times of testing come.
The Bible says “to not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship does light have with darkness?” It’s not a matter of being good enough, but a matter of compatibility. And that only makes sense.

really? that’s what you believe? therefore if someone doesn’t have faith in God, it’s God’s fault? so… in your mind, non-believers will go to hell simply because that’s what God decided?

Marlin, the questions that you ask like this require a discourse in theology to answer. And I’m tempted to answer you now, but I haven’t slept all night and need to get to sleep. Maybe if I have time later….

are you implying that one needs to take courses in theology in order to understand Christianity? b/c that would explain why there are so many confusing and contradictory statements made by christians about their beliefs and religion.
but seriously, it doesn’t take theology, it only takes a little common sense.
