Why does Best Buy arrange their movie section by genres instead of overall alphabetical order?

I’m not sure what the stores are like in your area but one that I just went to had an odd movie section. The movies aren’t all in one lump section all together but are rather split up based on these genres and then alphabetized like that. Maybe I’m too “old school” and was looking in the dwindling DVD section (while the BluRay section was nearer to the front of the main aisle), but it just seemed like a terrible way to arrange movies.

Is it like that in any other stores?

That’s how libraries arrange their media, so it is a widespread standard.
Thinking back, every store I’ve ever been to divides their films by categories, rather than alphabetically. Maybe not Target or Walmart, but definitely dedicated media stores that I remember.

I guess I’ve just always been used to Walmart’s or Target’s standard which makes finding them much easier. I think the genre takes a backseat to the actual title in terms of how I’d find it.

The Best Buy in my area is sort of unorganized anyway. I generally wander around aimlessly if I go in there unless I’m on a mission to get a specific thing, in which case the overly interactive salespeople can point it out quickly anyway.
