computer help: Hi, - Help.com

Hi,

I don’t know what else I can do to fix my daughters computer. I just replaced the power box and the computer woun’t turn on. 1st this computer would turn itself off after being in use for about an hour or so. Then it would turn off and on , not letting itself reboot. I would have to pull the blug from the back to turn the power off the computer. so it would stop turning on and off. But, now, it doesn’t even turn on. I pluged the cord behind the computer and the little green light would turn on. But, when I would press on the button to turn on the computer from the front. It woun’t turn on and the little green light turned off. It woun’t turn on at all, even after I put in a new power box. HELP, what can it be, how can i fix this.. does anyone have any idea. I would appreciate your help. thank you.
Lydia

“1st this computer would turn itself off after being in use for about an hour or so.” -> possibility is your CPU fan doesn’t spin fast enough to cool your CPU, or airflow inside your casing is bad.

Have you try to use the old power box (it still work does it?), and see if it would turn on? there’s always possibility for bad power box even if its new.

1st Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. The fan turns on. and I did try the old power box and it does work. Becasue the new one I just put in. does the same thing the old one I took out did. there’s no change. I would thing it power boxes work, because the little green light on the back turns on but, when i hit the the button on the front. it woun’t turn on and it makes the little green light from the back of the power box turn off. if you think it might be the casing. lol i have to ask what is that. is that that silver box under the fan?

I see, well in most cases, that whats happen if your power supply did not work properly. Offcourse there’s other possibility, like maybe your motherboard is broken. But its rare.

ok, well what i can think of is.
1. your old power supply is not broken at all
2. the problem is with your pc cooling system, or maybe with its software operating sytem.
3. have you plug all the power supply cable accordingly?

bleh.. its much more easier if you can bring that here an I can fix it in no time lol :p

Yes, Im afraid you can’t fix it by your own for now. because there’s some possibilities that maybe your motherboard is broken (i hope not) or a mismatched bios configuration (need to reset bios, kinda hard to know which jumper to use if you dont have experiences) or its just the new power supply that broken.
