How to tell people how we met…

.

So, I’ve been dating a wonderful guy for a while now, and am introducing him as my boyfriend. However, when people ask how we met, they often have pretty strong reactions. We met on a dating site (OKCupid), and it seems like there is still a big stigma about online dating (it’s sketchy, pathetic, or “not real” somehow).

Should I just stick with saying “we were set up”, or make up a story? Help!

Be shameless. You have no cause for shame. Stigmas are for ignorant and narrow-minded people. You want nothign whatsoever to do with stigmas. Id’ pretend they don’t exist.

Just tell people.

I met my last boyfriend online, and no-one I told was shocked, surprised or judgemental - in fact most people had a story of someone they know who met their current partner or boyfriend online, so I think it is pretty common now.

Also, if you make something up, you both need to remember the same story, and if you are asked for more info you might get caught out….I don’t think it’s a good idea.

i met my fiance(and my last oh, idk 2 other bf’s) on okc. not many ppl ask us where we’ve met really, but if it ever comes up i just say ‘online’ and leave it at that. i personally never felt/thought there was any stigma about it, most of the time the other person would say ‘yea i met so-and-so online…’ blah blah blah. lol.
