information help: I have a full-time professional job at a well known company, but would like to take on an unpaid internship as well to gain additional experience. - Help.com

I have a full-time professional job at a well known company, but would like to take on an unpaid internship as well to gain additional experience.

My current work schedule is pretty flexible ( and I am underutilized) so it would be easy to make it work out.

The internship opportunity does not require that I do anything for the other organization, but will give me access to classes that I otherwise would not be able to take (3 classes, 1 time each, for an hour or two each). This experience would also expose me to new people to build my network.

The information I learn in the internship will also provide benefit to my full-time job.

One organization is private, the other government. There is no other way for me to get this type of experience or exposure, and I do not believe there is a conflict of interest as I will be working my proper hours at my ft job and fitting in the internship.

What do people think - Get the experience?

Ask the people where you work what they think, in a genuine way as if you have not made your mind up.

If you have nothing to lose and everything to gain then by all means undertake the internship.

Are the two companies in any way in competition with each other?

When you are done with the classes do you plan on ending your internship prematurely?
