I know this might be a stupid question but I recently
got my first credit card and my dad told me that I won’t build credit if I pay my credit card online. He said you have to have it sent in the mail to have a paper trail. My dad usually has no idea what he’s talking about when it comes to anything online. (He refuses to get an email address and has no idea how to use google lol) Anyways I feel like he’s incorrect and I just need someone to validate that before I sign up to pay my credit card bill online. Thanks!

Of course you can use your credit card online.
I know you can use credit cards online, that’s not really what I’m asking. I’m asking if you will still build credit if you pay online due to the fact that my father insists that you must pay through the mail to build credit.
Sorry if I was a little unclear, I’m talking about paying your credit card *bill* online.
I don’t understand the expression “build credit” in the context of a credit card.
A credit card is to PAY with, not to build up credits.
How ever: The paying process is the same whether you pay online with or in a real shop with paper receipt. At the end of the month you’ll get the invoice you have to pay.
Or are you talking about a prepaid card?
No. Building your credit score. When you have a credit card, you begin building credit (your credit score)

Depends on the company which issues the card. I’m on Visa and I have not such thing like credit score on it.
But I cannot imagine that there would be a difference between online and offline use. But ask the customer support of the credit card company!

To pay it online makes less costs for the credit card company. So I’m sure they will welcome it!
Credit Score is a score you get from national credit industries. It’s a score that banks and other lenders use to judge your credit worthiness and whether they should take the risk of giving your more credit and or a loan.
The method you use pay your bills has no effect on your credit score; the fact that you pay your bills and on time is what effects your credit score. So as long as you pay your bill on time you will not have a problem building a good credit score.
Of cores there are other factors that also affect your score than you timely payments.

Oh that!
In our country it has nothing to do with credit cards. And there is no such score here.
Only if you will be under prosecution and collection of a claim it will affect you credit card contracts. Because there exists an official prosecution register here.
I don’t see why not. you can print out confirmation pages and such to create your own paper trail. but it’s not necessary to do that in order to have proof of good credit.
at any rate, credit cards = deal with the devil. save yourself and destroy them now.
Paying on line does not have a negative impact on your credit score. I pay all my credit bills on line and I find it to be by far the most efficient and convenient way to do so. If you want to pay your credit card bills on line then by all means, do so. There’s no difference (other than speed and convenience) between paying through snail mail and the web; both get the job done and help you build credit.
well your dad is wrong, paying online is easiest. You don’t have to get a stamp or remember the due date to be paid, always pay before the due date, this what gives you credibility. You can pay the minimum payment or pay the whole monthly bill. If you pay the minimum, they charge you interest on the balance and that could raise your bill a lot, if the APR (percentage rate) they charge you is 10, or even more 18.99 percent interest, you will be paying the creditor extra money over whatever you bought. I pay my whole bill every month so try not to spend more than you have. That’s why and how you get in debt and never get out. Then your credit worth is shot. Don’t miss any payments, pay half or all of the charges and see what APR rate they are charging. It’s really high. So don’t go charging up everything thinking you can pay 25 a month, by the time you pay it off, you will have paid double for whatever you bought, if not more. Good luck. Sign up on line. Check that interest rate.
