Migraine

Having constant migraines for the last three years. Been scanned and luckily no tumors or anything life threatening but I’ve not found anything that’s done anything for the symptoms. Lost my social life over it and might have to leave my job as they can’t find anywhere dark enough. Has anyone had anything similar and found any medication that works? I’m clutching at straws here. Its all the time but get cluster headaches sporadically. Literally anything would be great.

You should find out the trigger — that’s the main point!
And to battle the trigger.

My trigger for years was the overacidification of the stomach (e.g. drinking white wine or orange juice with an empty stomach before eating). I detected this just accidentally.
But others have an other trigger (hunger, noise, etc.)
Important: If you are attentive to your body you can feel the slow approach of a migraine attack, the first little signs. And then you have to take the strong painkiller AT ONCE! Don’t wait until the pain is there! Kill the peak early enough.

ALWAYS kill any physical pain and in its most early stage — otherwise your brain “learn” the pain and brings it back again and again, even if there is no physical reason anymore.

Oh sorry, trigger is light. Which is a pain as might as well be air. Have to wear shades all the time so get some strange looks at night.

So far on 400mg of topimarate and rizatriptin for the cluster headaches

The sun light? And you wear sunglasses, of course? Are they dark enough?

But I doubt if air can be a trigger — except strongly polluted air.

How many attacks do you have per week or month?

Glasses are dark as they can be. I mean I have to be out there so need to see. It’s a fine mix. Seems to be as soon as I can see the pain starts. Its dull but always there. Air was just a joke. As in how much of a pain it is to have an aversion to light.

Pain is constant. Well it’s there when I wake up hence the brain scan, the cluster head aches tend to be once a week on average.

Substitute joke for exaggeration

Have you ever had a full medical examination of your eyes? Seems that they are oversensitive, and it could be, that there is a deeper eye problem in the background.
Have a look at this: “Eye Care: The Causes of Light Sensitivity”: http://health.msn.com/health-topics/v…

Do you wear (corrective) eyeglasses or lenses since the migraine occurs?

Are you in the medical profession because it seems we’re covering the same ground I have previously. I have photophobia ( although I have dark eyes ) nothing wrong with my eyes physically though. So we’re now at more or less the same point where I am today.

I’ve tried propranolol and the name escapes me but the side effects include weight gain and insomnia

I just don’t want to be on disability at 22. I’m not bad at my job but I can’t see myself doing it much longer.

Your sunglasses should not only be as dark as possible, but polarized too. That helps a bit more.

But the cause of photophobia cannot be diagnosed from afar.
I hope you really have had a medical examination of your eyes!

And, of course, it’s very common that migraine goes together with photophobia.

Beside a possible physical cause photophobia can also be induced by the mental state of anxiety and/or depression. That for you should see a psychiatrist.

Well I guess that’s the next step. Thanks doc. I guess I’ll see a psychiatrist because I’m willing to try anything at this stage, surgery homeopathy you name it. My shades are polarized for the glare. For some reason I still get huge streaks off of high intensity light but what you going to do… have a good night. I appreciate the input. Ever need anything I’ll keep an eye open for you.
