Questions about working out?

Perhaps someone who has experience can help me? I am beginning to work out, but I used to do a lot of push ups, like 200, and that pushed me towards stopping them completely, because performing a work out for that length of time discouraged me, so I just gave up.

Now I’m working out again, I’m doing a few situps, I have this springy-iron thingy for my biceps, and in a few days I will resume push ups as well. Right now I’m doing about 3 sets of 10-12 reps each, occasionally 4 sets. What I would like to know is, is that sufficient? I do not intend to have a huge intimidating, body builder body, I just want to lose fat, and be a tad muscular, not in an overly muscular way, but just a bit muscled, like most movie stars nowadays, defined but not too bulky. Will the sets I am doing suffice? I do not want to push myself towards completing 200 reps each workout, because that will bore me out and make me stop completely again. What do you think? Also, since I am trying to lose fat, in conjunction to gaining some muscle, what should I be eating? I am avoiding white carbs, have a lot of fruit, water and green tea, eat a lot of chicken and fish, brown bread, oatmeal, and I try to eat every 3 hours not too large dishes. Thanks :)

Try to follow CONSTANTLY the Food Combining.
You may eat nearly everything, but in strict combination. It’s easy and very effective!

If your goal is to tone up and lose weight (rather than bulk up), and you’re doing body weight exercises, you can do more reps (20 to 30). If it’s too easy, give yourself less recovery between sets.

Try doing some pushup variations that force you to activate your core. Add some variety to your workouts. For example:

Counter pushups with reverse pushups to prevent muscle imbalances and curved-shoulders. Most people sit all the time and naturally start to curve their shoulders inward. If you stand with your arms at your sides, where do you thumbs naturally point? If they point inward toward your hips (rather than forward), you should probably do more to develop your back muscles. You can do these underneath a table or you can attach two cables/ropes to the ceiling in a basement.

If you’re trying to burn fat, try to incorporate some kind of squat or lunge movement into your workouts. Or do some kind of compound movement with a squat / shoulder press. Start with less weight and more reps. Use a wide stance and don’t let your knees extend beyond your toes. Stop if you have any knee or back pain.

Try doing some plank variations. More effective than situps.

Sounds like you’re doing great with the nutrition. Make sure the brown bread is whole wheat rather than enriched. Also, if you own a blender, smoothies are great. Peal bananas and freeze them if your blender can handle it. Add them with plain yogurt or milk, frozen organic berries and the stuff in this vid…
