Thought help: Does anyone here smile at the most inappropriate times? - Help.com

Does anyone here smile at the most inappropriate times?

I have found myself to smirk at funerals and other negative situations where smiling would be the worst thing you could do.. it’s not as if I’m thinking something like “oh haha this person died! yes!” all I think is “Right now would be a bad time to smile” or even when I don’t think that thought, sometimes it just happens…

I have found MANY sites where people comment on having this issue, but I’m wondering if anyone on here has experienced this.

Thanks!

Whenever I am getting scolded for something I apparently did wrong.. I can’t help but sit there and laugh, which gets me in more trouble of course. XD

yeah, i do it all the time. Mostly when i’m in the middle of a fight with. When someone is crying and i can’t stop that perosn I end up smiling like an idiot because i can’t do anything. When i’m taking a walk in the street i keep smiling for no reason( most people in my neighbourhood think i’m crazy)

I wish it was more understood, no one EVER talks about it, at least I never hear anything ever mentioned on TV about it.

I laugh. Its worse because I can’t hide it. Nervous frikking laughter. But it just sounds like I’m laughing at tragedy.

i laugh and smile at inappropriate times and have been told i do this as a defence mechanism to stop myself feeling emotions that i dont want to feel, i say its better to laugh then to cry over spilt milk

Yeah, I smile when I see bad things, I don’t know why. It certainly isn’t because I feel happy at that moment. My sister started laughing at the holocaust museum though *facepalm*.
