Love help: I’ve been married for over 6 years and in the past couple years our sex life has dwindled down to zero now. - Help.com

I’ve been married for over 6 years and in the past couple years our sex life has dwindled down to zero now.

He says he just doesn’t have time to have sex with me and its just easier for him to masturbate. I’ve been trying to be intimate with him but he just rejects me. We haven’t even kissed really in a long time. We act like room mates. I try telling him how i feel but he gives me an excuse that the reason he doesn’t want to is cause the house isn’t clean enough. I don’t know what is going on. I don’t think he’s cheating cause i checked his phone. I just don’t know what to do. We have a 5 year old and I’m originally from another state. I don’t have anyone here that can help me.

Seems to be time for a marriage counseling, no?

There are thousands of reasons why anyone would lose interest on the other person. The house not being clean is just an excuse. From his point of view it could be stress at the job, payments he can’t come up with, not finding you attractive anymore, you are too bossy, etc. etc. Have you praised him lately or made him feel he is your hero? From your side he is being selfish. All he wants is quick fix. Suggest a date with him alone and don’t talk about your child, or payments, or anything like that. Get a babysitter and go somewhere you don’t have to rush back to. Make it a romantic getaway.

why not take him up on his offer? ask him what he wants cleaned, and offer to do it in exchange for a romantic date, with no phones and no distractions. if he still puts you off, then ask him to set aside some time to talk about your love life and relationship. don’t be judgmental or ambush him, because you really just want to listen to him and try to understand what’s going on. if he doesn’t want to talk about it, then get a marriage counselor. some people just lose their desire for intimacy, but there are a lot of reasons for it, and many of them can be addressed.

Not all marriages are romantic or about love and affection and perhaps it is your lot in life to have just that. But every marriage is meaningful. Find the meaning in yours and you will be happy. It could be anything but what you thought it was. Look.

Clean the house, make yourself pretty and tell him that you want it. Then if he still refuses leave him. Life is too short to be miserable because another person is making things difficult. You don’t want to cheat on him and vice versa. There is no reason to live a single life while you are married.
