How do i get sleeping pills from my doctor?

(England)

Alright it’s like 00:03 and i cant sleep anymore, since 2010 i find myself up until 6am in the morning. I havn’t taken no action becuse i dont know what to do, i don’t currently have a doctor, i had one but i never went ever, and i moved home so it’s far away. I brought many different makes online, but they were the fake herbal ones, and dont work unless you take like the whole box, which causes vomit… i tried it before and will never use the fake ones ever again becuse they just dont work. I’m just wondering what would i have to say to my doctor? I cant sleep and i really want to heal the darkness around my eyes too, plus my neighbors always bang the walls and make big foot stomping noises, and i just want something that will make me pass out around 10pm-12pm.

You make an appointment, go see him, talk to him, tell him you think you need sleeping pills, and then hopefully he’ll prescribe you some!

First off buy some decent earplugs to block out your neighbours. What pills did you buy? I’ve used something called valerian root to help me sleep. It’s got a pretty potent smell but it works. You’ll feel sh*t the next day for a couple of hours like a hangover. If your in UK you can buy it from a Holland & Barretts.

As for your doctor well they most likely won’t give you aything herbal (I know in UK they don’t at least they’ve never given me any). They may give you a sedative like amatryptaline (spelling?) which you can only take for so long as I think it may be addictive but I may be thinking of another drug. Register at your local GPs and explain to them your situation and see what they can recommend.

A good an very helpful method asleep quickly (even if you don’t feel tired) is the following one:

• Lie down and close your eyes.
• Roll up constantly your eyballs as high as you can – while keeping the eyes closed!

You will asleep in less then 15 minutes, without fail!
It’s not painful, but the first times it irritates a bit. But hold on and concentrate solely on this exercise. There is no health risk at all.

The scientific background is:
While we sleep, our eyes turn completely upward in a way we can not deliberately bring it. But the above exercise sends a clear signal to the brain: “Oh, I (nearly) sleep.” And brain can fall asleep.

Try it out, several times, it’s really helpful!

[Good feedback from other help.com users! It works!]
