Evil smile

Every time i hear or see somebody either hurt or one’s misfortune, this evil smile appears on my face and i can not control it. Is there anything i can do about it?

Um, you can try being nice and genuinely concerned for others, and sweet and caring, considerate and thoughtful…or not listen to their misfortunes and maybe then you won’t have anything to smile about? play with babies more. like, in a not creepy way lol. maybe just smile at babies more. from a distance.

Ah, schadenfreude.

Apparently it is a sign of low self-esteem. Maybe you should try to feel better about yourself…

play with babies, Allthemessylove? interesting because i really don’t like babies much. and i think i am genuinely concerned for others, i always offer help etc but that smile is there all the time.

and you might be right, ilivelife, i do have a low self-esteem. i’ve been working on that for the past at least four years. hasn’t done any difference to the smile though.

thanks for the replies

maybe this is just some sort of phase. have you always had an evil smile?

i don’t know if i always had it and just was not aware of it, but i’ve noticed it happening a few years back after going through a very traumatic event.

but i remember one occasion, my father’s funeral, where i had this smile. the reason was that my mother would tell me all these awful things about my father how he would badly treat either my mother or myself, so i thought it was a good thing that he died. i was 11 then. it was only years later when i found out that my mother actually lied a lot and made up things just to turn me against my father. i don’t know if that is related.

when i found out the truth about my mother, i felt very angry, betrayed, and i hated my mother. then i felt ashamed of myself and i wasn’t even able to go to my father’s grave for 23 years. last summer i went there first time after the funeral and now i know my dad forgave me. perhaps it’s time for me to forgive my mother now.

perhaps it is. well it sounds like that original “evil smile” wasn’t so evil after all. I think you have a good heart.
