Last week my friend bought a tv in our house.
I am finding it very distracting. (Self control problem :-/ ) Any advice what can I do? (i think changing my residence could be a possible option but anything better? ) (i also thought of short circuiting its microprocessors, spilling water over it or burn it up with overvoltage but as it is under warranty till one year to come…the company will replace it instantly no matter what…besides being a bit juvenile)

Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
practice self control. if you’re not the one watching and the volume(or something similar) is bothering you, either go someplace more quite or let whomever is watching know and ask nicely/politely if they can lower it/etc.

My solution is headphones. I put on something that I find more pleasant and after a while I’m not so sensitive to a stream of media and the sound and lights of others are okay.
I have “in-ear” headphones that seal out sound, and expensive noise-cancelling headphones and big cup earphones that completely cover my ears. I can’t stand things like the tv, but it becomes okay if I adapt myself first by playing noises and lights of my own choice for a while, like from a computer.
I don’t understand?
I rarely watch tv, unless it’s the whole family sitting down to watch a movie together. When someone else is watching I simply go find something else to do.
Read a book.
Go for a walk.
Take a long bath.
Clean a room.
Declutter a closet.
Draw a picture.
or just sit and watch for a while…it won’t kill you.
Thanks mindhealer. But did not understood though that how noise-cutting headphones will prevent me succumb to watch TV for long hours.

Actually It becomes hard for me to resist watching it. Earlier it was better as we had no tv so i didn’t think of it. Now with a tv in home , I would watch it day and night. Its like sugar and fat addiction to fat people.
Did I make myself clear? I think the problem is I can’t concentrate after watching too much tv.

You make any recording you like. I use it to focus and keep my mind focused on exactly what I wish to pay attention do. This often doesn’t work the first time, I have to re-record the same thing over and over until it is more and more perfectly attention-focusing for my mind. Mass media entertainment can’t even slightly compare after a while, because I have direct access to my own feelings and desires.
I remember you said that affirmations don’t help you, so this is just for example of the sort of things that could help: http://affirmyourlife.blogspot.com/20…

I agree with both of those things. it is addicting and it stirs up your mind, makes it chaotic. these are valuable insights.
not sure what to do. I live in a spot with no tv stns and we don’t pay for cable. so its easy for me.
you just gotta use old fashioned gumption and fight the power. peel yourself a away and get some fresh air. recapture a sense of calm. it will be hard, but once you have a little discipline you can break the habit and not be so helpless to resist.
