A couple weeks ago I was hospitalized with pancreatitis.
A week later I was discharged. This is not the first time I have had pancreatitis and today I was informed it likely won’t be the last time either. I saw my doctor today and received a diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis. I was told that I would likely have occasional flares that would result in my needing to be hospitalized until I recovered.
On one hand I was kind of happy to receive this news as it explained so much of the unexplained pain I had been having. But on the other hand I was not so happy to receive this diagnosis as it puts me at higher risk for pancreatic cancer, I don’t really like the idea of being in and out of the hospital on a frequent basis, and treatment is limited and not very effective.
At this time I could use some words of encouragement. So if you have anything that you think might be of some help then please leave a response. I appreciate the support.

Anytime! You know I’m here to chat with you anytime you need.
Well, one thing I always tell people is that we’re living in an age wherein medical advances are coming so fast and furious that, though it’s a bit of a crap-shoot, you can never know if a new day won’t bring a cure for whatever malady a person might be suffering from. Hope springs eternal, and quite possibly more justified now than at any other time in human history so.. hang in there.

I’m sorry you’re going through all of that. You’re in my thoughts, and I hope everything works out for you.

Thanks, both of you.
That a good thing you know now more about your pain. Any news about the lawsuit regarding the doctor who refused to treat you? This diagnosis should be used as a proof for his malpractise.
Puck, your ability to endure all of these difficulties with hope and courage is a testament to your strength as a person. I believe many would’ve given up long ago if faced with such difficulties. But not you. You’re a very strong person, and I can only hope that I will be half as strong as you whenever life tries to break me.

You’re an inspiration, Puck. I saw your post from the other day about missing playing hockey, and I’m sorry you’re feeling down lately. At least now you have this diagnosis the doctors know what to focus on, and as Big Willy said, there are advances in medicine all the time. Try to keep your chin up, you have many admirers here :)

None yet. I kinda get the feeling it may not happen, but we’ll see.

Hi AH, DP, PF, all of you guys. I don’t think there is one person here that would not trade places with you in an instant so that you could live a happy normal life. Not one. Having said that I also think we only know part of what it is be in your shoes day in and day out and if we DID trade places we wouldn’t be able to endure it as well as you have. You are an inspiration to us all.
If we had a way to make it all go away and see you be a healthy little bean sprout we’d do that too. In a heartbeat. But we have no magic wand or way to trade places with you. And a part of me grieves that we can’t. I can talk for hours how much you mean to us and how special you are. I can make you laugh for a minute but it doesn’t diminish the years of pain you have had. And it doesn’t sound like it is going to stop. That is rough news to take in. God how I wish a doctor or a healing entity of any kind could cure you. We would all love to hear THAT great news. No doubt you would love it too.
I say all that to get to this. You have a gift. A gift no one else has. And even though you share that gift with a few of us here on Help.com there are still more people that need to know about you. That need to meet you. That need to love you as much as we do. So from this day forward, live like every moment counts to somebody. Whether that means writing a children’s book or giving speeches or making time to be with a little 6 year old girl who only has months to live, do what you must to share your gift.
I know you count on us. Tomorrow someone is counting on you. So live. Live life to the fullest. Live… like you were dying.

One last thing. Anybody know where to find a bull named ‘Fumanchu’…?
Thanks for the in-depth, inspirational reply, SOCO.
Probably wouldn’t want to trade places with me, save that the medical system is much better here AFAIK.
Watch out, here comes a *tacklehug*!! :D

I like to be between said ‘amorous females’ when they run into each other; let’s call it a ‘Double DD delight!’.

always remember that sickness comes and goes, there are people who can’t even move, paralyzed…just take care on your diet and live a healthy lifestyle so that you can enjoy life, don’t let this one ailment stop you from living the best!
though i hope you stay fine always.
I thought the pancreas was a detoxing organ. Doesn’t it detox your body so when it is overloaded it acts up?
I suppose I meant that to be encouraging because if there is even some truth in it it could mean a way to offer some long term relief.

The pancreas is a vital organ that is part of the human digestive and endocrine systems. The pancreas makes enzymes and hormones such as insulin and glucagon for the body. Enzymes are substances that speed up reactions in the body. The enzymes the pancreas manufactures are necessary for the digestion of food. Injury or disease of the pancreas can result in severe illness and possibly death.
The pancreas is an important component of the digestive system. It manufactures and secretes digestive enzymes such as amylase, which digests starch. It also produces lipase, which breaks down fats, and trypsin, a protein processor. The pancreas creates and secretes insulin, glucagon and other hormones. Insulin and glucagon are especially important for the maintenance of blood sugar, as insulin lowers the blood sugar and glucagon increases the blood sugar according to the body’s needs.
I realized a couple days ago I was thinking of the appendix.
Either way, sending prayers your way.
Hugs
