Why is it that in this definition you chose “you” to refer to only males?
I’m just curious.

Lol well, firstly, it is only meant as a joke, and it isn’t my quote. I saw it and thought it was funny :P (not MY choice at all, what words where used)
Also I think the person who originally wrote it chose that way of writing because it’s far more common for men to be violent and expressively homophobic than women, and historically, it has been men who are in control of the workings of things so they are sort of the target of this statement.
At least, I assume so, I don’t actually know who wrote this first. My second theory is that it was written by a gay or lesbian who was bullied my males. Hmm…
Oh, okay. I was just wondering if anyone else was going to pick up on that. :)

haha actually, i’m surprised i didn’t… it does seem sort of unbalanced now. hmmmm.
and yet, the same statement doesnt make quite as much sense if targeted at women because hormonally, we aren’t wired for control of others (as in a dominant status, or stud of a harem type thing. you know, regular mammal stuff) so picking at the fear of being outdone doesn’t hit quite as hard…
what do you think?
I agree that there seem to be more men that are homophobic than women - at least that has been my observation.
I wonder why that is… it seems odd, in an evolutionary sense, that a man would be concerned at all. It’s better for their fellow men to be gay, in fact, because it means less competition for a mate. I think that’s why no other mammal has an issue with homosexual members, just humans… must be an intelligence and socialization thing… but again… why not so much with women? Odd.
I think it has something to do with men wanting to protect their machismo and dignity that is connected with heterosexuality. I cannot speak for women, though.

hmmm it makes sense. I always feel like homophobic men act as if they have been threatened… but yeah, not sure why women aren’t as bothered. I mean, there are lots of homophobic women of course but now that i think on it the only ones i have ever known are so for religious reasons.
which means…. homophobia might be rooted in not only ignorance and secondary socialization, but in strictly human nature (human, because other mammals don’t feel one way or the other about homosexuality in their species, which means it’s not an evolutionary, safety, health or security issue. an issue only advanced brains can trouble with! which probably means it’s petty. like hitler’s idea of jews. just silly nonsense with no grounds. hmmmm my brain hasn’t gotten this much use since my april exam period…) but still…. why is this opinion so sexually biased? it seems so backwards to me!
Most men who are openly homophobic probably have some sort of “masculinity complex.” I think most women tend to be more receptive to idea homosexuality or perhaps they just express their contempt for homosexuals in more subtle ways than men.
Isn’t it funny how most men who hate gays don’t have a problem with lesbians?
And why, in many homosexual mens’ opinions, is lesbianism sexy, but gay “disgusting, makes you a freak etc etc”
ok… now THAT is why that quote it directed at men….

My last exam was in December. It has felt underutilized ever since.

Homophobia:
The fear that gay men will treat you the way you treat women and that a lesbian woman will treat your women better than you do.
