friends help: I was at a gym and a guy talked to me today and we chatted. - Help.com

I was at a gym and a guy talked to me today and we chatted.

We both hike and climb so I thought it was cool because we possibly can be hiking/climbing friends. He asked me my email address. I thought I shouldn’t give him because I’m in a long distance relationship. But I didn’t know he was asking my email only because he wanted a climbing friend. If so, that’s cool. So I gave him mine.
But later, we chatted more, I could tell he was interested in me.

Then he sent me a msg saying “Nice to meet you. Let’s meet up when you have time.”

I’m not sure if he means for a gym or a date. I don’t want to give him a wrong idea and I only want to be a working out friend. If he doesn’t want, that’s okay. I’m not an English speaker so I don’t really know how to explain those nicely and politely.

Could you please give me some examples?
Thank you!

Tell him: OK, when are you coming next time to the gym? that will tell him you are interested on him only as a climbing friend

Yeah Anonymous is right. But you will also need to drop in to your next conversation something that makes clear that you are not looking for a romantic relationship.I tried to think of some examples, but everything I thought of could make matters worse! Lol! Anyone else?

That’s correct. And it is difficult because what he told me was only “Let’s meet up :)” then if I reply a loooooong msg to explain my position it’s kinda self conscious and rude, I guess.

A good way might be telling him whether your boyfriend likes hiking or not

ok! That’s more polite. I’ll reply to him like “be a gal” said and have to clear no romantic feeling! (somehow) Thanks for the tips!

You talked AND you chatted…?!?? Oh my God! Alert the media. Call CNN. Hold a press conference! Release a Youtube video of the occurrence. Get on Face the Nation…
Was TMZ weevils anywhere nearby? Society needs to be made aware!

Ahem. They said they weren’t an english speaker… Give them a break.
