friends help: What if it’s my fault, - Help.com

What if it’s my fault,

I was riding my bike at night and I was just coming to a busy street. I was with a couple of friends and we of course stopped at the light. But then there was no traffic and I saw flashing lights far away. I decided to go across, my friends yelled and told me to stop but it was too late. I was already going. I don’t think the ambulance slowed down, but what if it did. What if I caused some serious tragedy because of those spilt seconds. I don’t know what to do, I don’t believe in a higher so I can’t just simply pray and feel better. I feel really bad, and I feel like a really bad person.

What clue is leading you to assume something bad happened?

Because I unrightfully decided to ride my bike across the intersection. I didn’t purposely ride in front of the ambulance, I would never want to hurt anyone. And I don’t think the ambulance slowed down so I guess I don’t know why I’m assuming these bad things. But I can’t stop thinking about these “what if” questions. Thank you for replying by the way.

Well there are a lot of people who drive who don’t stop quick to let an ambulance go through. You can’t keep thinking what if. Consider it a learning experience.

Start thinking about a Higher Power . . . your universe will have a great big void in it until you do.

You really need to get that anxiety checked out.

I agree. This is nothing more then letting anxious thinking run away with your thoughts. When ever you are thinking of a past situation and questioning ” what if “, it is not good. You can’t change what happen, so stop worrying about it.

It was a lesson learned. Always be respectful of ambulances and give them the right of way. Done, nothing left to think about.

Be glad you have that much of a conscience to even think about it! Glass half full.

If anything happened, it’s not your fault.
You had no intent.
Just hope (notice I didn’t say pray) that nothing bad happened, and if something DID, it was through ignorance, not intent.
Of course, you should learn to become more mindful, but at least it wasn’t a purposeful action.
