So i was on the internet learning about the marines

and our military and i learned that the marines arent their own branch they are a branch of the navy. does that mean marines are pretty much in the navy or is it only like that because the marines get shipped to the middle east from the navy? if so would the army be a branch in the air force if army units are shipped on planes?

I don’t think it has anything to do with where they are shipped. The Army and the Air Force are their own branch. The Air Force came from the Army, but eventually became their own branch.

I believe the Marines are a special branch of the Navy that operates on air, land, and sea as need be. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_S…

In the civilian leadership structure of the United States military, the Marine Corps is a component of the United States Department of the Navy,[7][8] often working closely with U.S. naval forces for training, transportation, and logistic purposes; however, in the military leadership structure the Marine Corps is a separate branch.

The Marines have always been part of the Navy. The Marines were your original go anywhere force.

The Air Force was once a part of the Army.

The Coast Guard is under the Department of the Treasury in peacetime, and is transferred to the Navy during wartime.

Interestingly enough, the Army has boats and ships than the Navy.

Some nations, such as Canada, have combined their various branches of the service, i.e., navy, air force, army, and now have unified militaries.

Chev.jame, yes this is true - Canada has a unified military, called the Canadian Armed Forces. I guess the US still has them as separate branches, all reporting separately to the president?
