What’s a good job that forces you to be social?
I’m trying to deal with a variety of issues in my life including depression, anxiety and a lack of social skills.
It’s kind of going really slow at the moment and i’m desperate for some dramatic progress. I think I need to get a job, however i’d like to get a job that isn’t overly hard (so it doesn’t risk triggering my anxiety) but also forces me to be social in the hope of it improving my skills in that area.
i’ve worked in a call centre before and although it wasn’t hard work, it was too easy for me to focus on the calls and the computer in front of me and just avoid everyone else, which is what i’m trying to overcome.
So if anyone has any advice on what sort of job would be good for me, something probably working with other people and stuff, but nothing too high pressure, i’d really appreciate it, thanks.

Waiter at a restaurant? Tour guide? Grocery bagger? Any job in customer service?
yes i used to be a waiter, and there is a lot of customer interaction. although, if you’re looking for more of a career or a career start, you could pick something up in the medical field

Yes, when I first got a job as a waiter, I kept telling my manager that I was really shy and not comfortable with people, and she kept telling me that it was okay, many people in those jobs get them because of that, to work on being more outgoing.
I need a new job too.

I don’t understand this one, do you mean like working in tv and stuff? Cause i’d love to do that but it is a really hard business to get work in and there is so much competition.

Yes, and behind the scenes working with the studio and gathering information. Not really, you could become a local correspondant and give them information.
Probably apply online. Alot of those places they have the things on their sites that let you do that if they have any positions available.
Any job where you deal with the public forces you to be social. Conveniently, almost any public place you can walk in to to apply for a job, you’ll have to deal with people to even apply, which means that there are jobs there that require dealing with any random person who walks in.
My most social job was probably working at a tiny store where I would often be the only one working, because it was so overwhelmingly busy, people would be coming at me from both sides for hours, throwing money and words at me, chatting, disappearing. It wasn’t the most fulfilling job by a long shot, but at least I was competent and completely in charge socially. That doesn’t last forever, the magic powers granted by a job seem to fade when you leave it.

Like if you ever see businesses that are open to the public, in any city. If it is open to the public and you can go talk to someone then there are people there to deal with the public, and that is the job you can apply for.
for instance, if you go into a department store, and ask someone at the cash register to help you apply for a job, those people are in a job that allows them to be social, which means that job will force you to be social, because that would be one of the entry positions
