‘Job Assessment’ means what in this context?

I am applying for several management positions with companies. I have had some successful interviews, but I have one soon that specifically says they ‘will not be conducting an interview for selected candidates, but will carry out a three hour assessment’.

They have not told me what they will assess. I have phoned to ask the local place, but have been told by the general manager that he does not know what I will be doing as everything is handled by the region manager.

I have never had all the details withheld from me on purpose for a job I am applying for so… does anyone have any idea what I can expect?

It could mean a number of things . . . you could be given a psychological test, for one.

But here’s what I think it’s going to mean: the “manager” job they’ve got is actually selling. And they’re going to put you–and some other candidates–through a three hour spiel and see how you respond to that. They’ll tell you about being your own boss and how the sky’s the limit–while they pay you zero if you don’t sell!

Be sure to let us know if I’m right!

I now know that the position is for staff management. I’ve been told to expect to be constantly under pressure and will need to make many quick decisions. Still makes me wonder what they will do to me though :)
