I’m on a Mac too — all along.
This may help you to get familiar with your Mac very soon: http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/
Mac is really different if your used to windows or various forms of linux.
I havent used mac a lot since os 10 but it seemed to me that while your icons were different your catagories are similar. its a learning curve but dont get frustrated and eventually it will be effortless
which operating system came on your new mac if I can ask?

Assumingly “Lion” (10.7) which I hate!
(I went back to 10.6.8; but unfortunateley the latest Macs don’t work anymore with this “Snow Leopard”, and you have to accept “Lion”.)

ouch! Im not saying this to start a fight or anything but its sounding to me like mac is slowly becoming windows.. I could never understand why companies seek to be different by following their rivals’ business model.

I would express it a bit different: If you compare Lion (10.6.8) with Snow Leopard (10.6.8) it does not look like Windows, but more an more like a game console with all this icons and apps.
And I asked ironically myself: Is there still somebody WORKING with one of this latest Macs — or are they just for fun?
Additionally (which made me upset the most) many programs which work fine with Snow Leopard do not work anymore with Lion. So I would be forced to replace older versions of programs with newer ones — and of course not for free.

the issue of “supported… for a price” maybe they will learn from their mistake and their next os “leapon” or whatever they will want to call it will have some backwards compatibility.

Mac OS X 10.8 “Mountain Lion” is published since few days. Seems not to be very different from “Lion”.
But still without backwards compatibility for programs.
