Thought help: My pug dog has a “hole” on the side of his face with blood, its Sunday and the vet is closed! - Help.com

My pug dog has a “hole” on the side of his face with blood, its Sunday and the vet is closed!

What should I do?

I dont know what that is, yesterday he had a small red thing but small, so I thought Id wait until monday, but today that little thing grew up in size like 2cm in just a few hours!! The hair is all gone in that zone and the “hole” seem to have dry blood all over it, it looks like something that’s expanding. Its near his ear, I have no money now (I can get money tomorrow though) and the vet is closed, I put some alcohol on it to desinfect it but what should I do? Please help!

polysporn. it is an antibiotic, same with cow salve. it will also help with minor pain. Now keep in mind that I have had positive results with my pets, I am not a Vet, or doctor, and have only basic first aid training…

Sounds like he has an abcess one of my cats had that last year we took him to the vet’s and got him sorted in 24 hours so he should be fine for another night, soak it in warm water and when he does eventually scratch of the scab on the hole it most like will leak pus, if it does get a piece of tissue or lots of tissue and just keep wiping and cleaning it up, I wouldn’t recommend draining the abcess coz that could lead to infection, you’ve got the right idea about soaking it in alcohol I wish I’d've thought of that lol other than that just keep an eye on him give him loads of love and wait till he bursts the abcess he will eventually coz it will irritate him and when it does just clean it up and then take him to the vet.

trentlover20 I just checked “dog abcess” on google and it looks exactly as what my dog has! And it also looks swollen so it must have pus inside.
I dont dare to touch that zone that much thouogh because my dog starts moving and getting nervous and I am afraid its gonna do more worse than good :( Ill take him to the vet first thing in the morning

I had a hunch it might be an abcess my cat’s had abcesses twice now, and they’re always in the same place under his jaw or near the side of his face. It’s where when I let my cats out they obviously have fights with the foxes or other cats and they get scratched maybe the same thing happened with your dog, seriously though i must warn you that the smell of the puss is pretty disgusting i nearly passed out and I’m not squeamish at all I went to beauty college and learned how to squeeze blackheads lol and even i was gagging when me and my sister had to keep cleaning it because it was leaking down his neck bless him :( cost £60 to get it drained even though we have pet insurance is your dog insured?

the fact that the wound is growing so quickly has me thinking that it might be a brown recluse bite. check this website to see if the symptoms are similar. it may vary from person to animal, but keep a close eye on your dog. a recluse bite would be really serious.

He is insured, or was… I am late 1 month :( I hope the vet forgives that and still treats him like a member.
Regarding the spider bite, we dont have that kind of spider around here (or any dangerous spider so thats probably not the reason).

Update (after 3 months!)

My pug was burned in the face by a lunatic who was working in my house!!! :( When I took him to the vet he had to remove all the skin with fur of the left side of his face and leave it as raw flesh. I almost pass out when I saw that! I was taking care of him and with lots of meds and after 1 month he recovered 100% :)
Hes OK now, the fur came back and it looks as if nothing happened. The stupid painter was obviously fired (we couldnt create a demand since we didnt have proof he did it).
