) which is legal and free, I just need a word equivalent, does anyone know what this is or where to find it?

No, Microsoft Office is never free.
But OpenOffice is free — it works very similar to MS Office and it’s compatible with Word: http://www.openoffice.org/download/

To use the trial version without buying it later is not helpful, because the documents which you will make with are blocked after the trial period.

Thanks anyway Fairytale :) I have already used the trial version just for my last days at college. I’d heard of OpenOffice, but couldn’t remember the name! Have downloaded it now, thank you Zirbel!

No, it confuses only and is messing your documents.
OpenOffice is the one and only solution in this case.
