when your boyfriend says, in front of your friends

he met the first tome in his life, that you are not a woman, you are alcoholic and only after that you are a woman. How can person react on that? It was the first time he met my friends and he said that just as a joke to make people laugh. Is it apropriate to humiliate person you love just to make unknown for you people laugh ? I feel so terrible :(((
