How do you know whether it’s worth trying so hard for someone or not?

How do you know if something is worth being done or not? Where is the line? When should you stop? How much should you be doing for someone?

Anyways Poem, Author Unknown wrote:
People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

You’re quit welcome ^^
The way I see it, a lot of the good we do in our lives is necessary for our well-being as well.
People who try to hoard their money and be stingy are never satisfied with their wealth, whereas those who freely give always are. Just as holding onto anger and bitterness for other people harms us even more than it harms them. God desires us to have compassion for others, and it really is the best thing for us as well. =)

I guess the only way to know is if you do it and infer from the results.
