Very nervous about my promotion at work…

I work as a food runner at a fine dining restaurant. I’ve been there for three years (four summers, which is our busy time) now and I work really hard. Well, yesterday my manager said that he wanted to talk to me. He took me upstairs into the office and informed me that he and the other managers are very pleased with my performance and they would like for me to become a server. I was ecstatic because I have been waiting for this for a long time now. They generally only promote within if the person comes to them and asks them for it. However, I wanted them to come to me because I feel that if I’m worthy of the promotion, they will notice and offer it. Anyways, I’m incredibly nervous now. Since it is fine dining, I have to do a serve out which means I serve all of my managers. I know that I know what I am doing, but I feel like I may freeze up while serving them. I don’t know why, but I am imagining the worst possible things happening. I train for two weeks and then do my serve out, although since I already know the food, it may be shorter. I hate having such anxiety over this. I feel silly. lol.

I forgot to mention that I’ve never served before, which is what is causing me to freak out I think.

You’ll do fine. Besides, the worst thing that could happen is that you get your old job back right? Be confident.

You may make some mistakes. If you make a mistake, recover from it gracefully. Don’t sweat it. You know what you are doing. Have confidence in yourself!

It is normal to have butterflies in your stomach when undergoing a test or trial. The secret is getting the butterflies to fly in formation!

You’ll be fine!

And just think of all the people who have gone before you and have succeeded at this task!
