Do violent video games affect your brain?

(I.e CoD, Mortal Kombat, etc.)
I am really concerned about this because I play CoD:MW2 a lot, and I mean A LOT. No, I don’t play days straight but I do play maybe around 4-5 hours a day. Anyways, I love to strategize and to think and decide how my strategy will work and how I will make it work. But I guess I’ve been stressing out on my strategies lately because every time I take a nap or go to bed, I start to fall asleep slowly, then all of a sudden, I’m in CoD, the video game itself! I have also noticed a lot of anxiety when I sleep and I feel like I’m dumb. Has CoD really affected my brain or is it just that I wake up too early in the morning to play? Anyone willing to answer my question, please? Thanks in advance! =) P.s I DON’T want to have a mental problem in my future all because I played to much video games! :’(

I personally think guns kill people, not video games. However more to the point, the reason your dreaming of COD is because of how much your playing it. When you do any one activity too much you run the risk of dreaming about it.

I personally on several occasions have drempt about working on various modeling and programming. It sucks too… Of course I too have had dreams of games, movies, and the occasional p0rn scene. ;)

So if you don’t want to dream about it, then try doing something else.

Alright! Thanks guys! =) I won’t play CoD that much anymore because school will start very soon and that will keep me busy. =)

I spent most of my youth playing Quake and Quake3, and so did most of my peers. 10 years later and we’re all engineers or doctors or lawyers :) Everyone plays violent games, if anything it helped release stress and other frustrations in life!

I also have issues sometimes with sleep, but thats because I have an overactive mind and imagination - if anything gaming stimulated this and made me a better engineering student during my college days.

Same here, I have an overactive mind. Like I said, I absolutely love to strategize and to use my imagination. I daydream like 30 times a day! =P Sometimes when I am trying to sleep or take nap, my mind is just going crazy, over thinking things and strategizing for certain things, that I yell in my head,” SHUT UP, BRAIN!! I AM TRYING TO SLEEP HERE BUT YOU’RE OVERTHINKING THINGS TOO MUCH!” lol
