Here is a link to a post where I list the different types of distorted thinking and what you can do to change it.

It takes a lot of work and effort but you can stop your thoughts from always making everything look bad.

Let your logic overcome your emotions and let your emotions overcome your fears.
Any other order will bring mess to your mind.

I am not a psychologist, just a person with depression that has learned to not let it take over my life.

but depression comes once in awhile. always. it never leaves you.

For some people it may be a one time occurance do to life event. For others like myself, there is a chemical embalance in the brain and will always have depression. Either way, you can learn how to live with it and not be miserable your whole life.

And what if I tell you that the disbalance is a result of what you think and not the other way around?

and babacup is offline! jeez..

I was off dying my hair! Have to go rinse in about 5 minutes.

I do not think there any test to know if you have a embalance. Doctors know by working with you over a period of time and seeing how often you get depressed, how you handle emotional upsets, and how long it takes you to bounce back from a emotional upset.

I have been to therapist and doctors off and on for 20yrs now. It was just about two years ago that my family doctor said I think you just need to stay on the medication permanately. Every time I am off the medication, I slowly get depressed again, I can fight it off for long periods of time, but fighting it gets exghuasting. Even with the low dose of medication I take, I still have to be aware of my thoughts and make sure when I am upset over something, that I have a valid reason and it is not the depression making me think something is worse then it is.

Timer just went off for me hair. Time to rinse. I will be back soon.

lol i am sorry.. i thought you were left… is that prozac you’re taking?

thanks!

I have taken prozac in the past, but now I take zoloft 50mg. It helps keep me steady with out too many drops.

Like just this week, I found out someone at our church ,who had worked with the children, was accused of some type of inappropriate behavior towords a child. That is all we know. So I had a huge emotional drop because this man is someone who my children have been around and someone we all loved. (he has recently passed away, which makes that much harder to deal with)

So one day of feeling overwhelmed, in tears, and confused. Worries if anything could have happen to my children, and then I was able to think clearly. With out medication it could of taken a very long to to get control of those feeling and be able to think clearly. With out medication, once I have a drop, it takes a long time for my body to produce the chemicals to help me get back to normal. With medication I can deal with a emotional drop like everyone else does.

actually i am specific with the area of my life i am depressed about. my career. my work. and with that comes health issue. because i would eat much. then i would withdraw from ppl. i would isolate myself

I think being unhappy with work/career alone is not depression, but when it is effecting other areas of your life, that is when it is a problem. Like you said health issues, over eating, withdraw and isolation. That would suggest a depression episode. go to my page and take the burns depression test and see what you score.
