Dream help: I have been trying to have a good lucid dream for over two years. - Help.com

I have been trying to have a good lucid dream for over two years.

I normally remember my dreams; although, I don’t always write them down. I have an extreme desire to have a lucid dream. I have read several websites and even books on the subject of dreams. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I occasionally go to bed repeating to myself “The next time I’m dreaming, I will remember to recognize that I’m dreaming,” and I wake up disappointed to have had another non-lucid dream. I’ve listened to binaural beats and have considered taking vitamins…but if I were to ask my mom for some, she’d probably look at me like I was crazy.

I really want to experience the joy of being able to lucid dream every night…I’m kinda desperate.

I have had lucid dreams before. Not to rub it in your face but its quite awesome.. Although for most people you cannt control it, it just happens…. However, one tip ive heard people say is to do a lot of day dreaming and try to focus in on the fact that youre day dreaming and pay attention to what your day dresming about as it happens. And dont give up because it takes a lot of time :)

Keep a notepad and pencil by your bed and write down the first thing you remember about your dream when you wake up. Keep doing this every morning. EVERY MORNING. You need to train your brain to recognize the importance of your dreams. You need to develop the habit of becoming aware of your dream state and reinforce the idea that your brain needs to pay attention to the dream, instead of simply letting it happen. The effect will be slow and subtle (probably taking about three to four weeks) but I promise, you will have a lucid dream.

Also, the first time you will probably wake up from the dream as you realize what is happening. Don’t let this discourage you. On the contrary, this is exactly what you want. A lucid dream is half dream, half waking consciousness. When you become aware that you are dreaming do not try to change anything yet, just watch and let the dream unfold in any way it will. After you get comfortable with watching your dreams from the inside, then try to change small things about it.

My first lucid dream was when I was about 8 and I was plagued by a recurring nightmare about a tiger on a motorcycle (funny now yes, but to an 8 year old…) that would run me down and claw my back. I would wake up in a cold sweat. One night I expected the dream and when it happened, I turned around with a sword and cut him in half. The dream never bothered me again.

So! Record each nights dream as soon as you wake up. Just keep doing this and eventually you’ll start lucid dreaming.

Good luck.

Thanks you two. My goal for this month is to have at least one lucid dream. I’m taking all the advice I can get.
