friends help: I’m not saying I am suicidal or anything, but I’m pretty sure we all do this. - Help.com

I’m not saying I am suicidal or anything, but I’m pretty sure we all do this.

Have you ever just, been all alone or with a friend and talked about how pointless life is? When you think about it, there is nothing new and unique, the only real purpose we have for being born is to well..have sex, to we can give birth to more who have the exact same purpose as we do. Nobody is different and when it comes to it, the only real difference made in dying young and dying old is how many friends can grieve for you and how you look in your casket. I hope I’m not the only one here, but I’m pretty sure we’ve all had a conversation with our friends on how we would kill ourselves if we were pushed over the edge right? Lol.. Isn’t it sad that all we do during our life is wake up, go to work/school and go back to bed? Sure, we take time off but hardly ever, and we do that all in the hopes that we’ll have a roof over our head when we’re too old to work, what’s seriously the point in that? Wouldn’t living shorter yet..more free be a more enjoyable life? Some people live more in 20 years than others do in 80. Why not live a rock and roll life style? Sex, drugs then die hard? Do you depend on others to live? I think so, if you were the last person on earth, I’m pretty sure you’d do what any other person would do commit suicide. Anyways this is off my mind now, how is everybody doing? :D

Interesting speculation, but speaking from the experience of being extremely miserably insane and alienated to the point where I wouldn’t know if people still lived or not, suicide would not even be close to being on a list of things to do or consider. Quite the opposite - the harder it is to survive, the more attention goes straight to trying to survive.

The other stuff I can relate to more, like what is the point or purpose of life, and what is worth doing in life. That’s what I try to consider all the time.

They used to die pretty early back in the olden days. Invent a time machine or just refuse any medical help, you probably would not live so long. Life is what you make it to be. You say its pointless, others say its wonderful. How great is perspective? You can make this world a living hell if you want to. To answer your question.. yes, I have gone on about suicide/seeing no reason to live around my firend. I did it today. Feel kind of bad though to say such negitive things when someone is trying to chear you up. Ooh I’ve done it alone before too, I’m doing it now.

I felt numb, like i could cut right now andit wouldent even case me. I threw my pocketknife out the window a long time ago.. though I bet if I looked for it it would still be there. Hmmm……..

How are you?

true, i think most have thought about it. all tho personally i’ve never thought of committing suicide. i mean, what a waste. if you don’t see a point in working for the rest of your life then don’t. find your own way of living, you really don’t have to follow what others are doing unless you want to…you DO have a choice.

It is possible to experience valuing life more. That’s easy for me to see if I just read my screen-name a few times and try to imagine what it might feel like to love my life. I get hints of memories of experience where I actually really truly value living and being alive. This is pretty worthwhile, or at least the only worthwhile thing knowable, so I’ll try to remember to feel like that again soon.

Well to start with the Universe owes you nothing, and so it shouldn’t either. Anybody that thinks otherwise is fooling themselves aha Although the point of living is to continue your race, true! I would suggest looking one step deeper..but no more.
We are the only animals on this planet that have a conscious mind. We are the only animals that ‘know’, or have knowledge if you prefer it, of our deaths. This gives us, and no other species, a leverage. We don’t need the universe to owe us anything. We can have goals, ambitions, dreams etc and that is the whole ‘point’.
If you think life is pointless because we’re just going around in generational circles then like I said above: think of the conscious mind, not just the living body :)
I like to think of life/conciousness as the universes way of discovering itself; seeing as we’re all born out of stars and everything in the universe is too.
My 2 pennies right there sir!

I looked at your profile, you’re still in high school, your best moments are yet to come. There are major differences in how people live. I’ll throw out some names- Galileo, Da Vinci, Newton, Einstein, Ghandi, Hawking, etc. If I had a magic wand, a “rock and roll” lifestyle wouldn’t be the most fulfilling option for me, the best times in my life have been directly tied to achievement, family and love. It feels good to succeed, and with your whole life in front of you, the exhilaration of love and accomplishment is yours to lose. Give it your all while you’re young and free, it’s so much fun!

True, but what’s the point of being immortalized if you..well don’t live to see it. Not to mention the chances of becoming something like that is 1 our of millions and millions and millions, not to mention that it really wouldn’t be worth it.

Einstein did live to know the impact he would have on humanity and history and it’s not why he did it. As a predecessor of those great people you benefit from their accomplishments. You don’t have to be Michelangelo to appreciate the Sistine Chapel. You are on the precipice of beginning one of the best times in life. At 18 I went to a University on the coast and spent 4 years meeting incredible people, having the time of my life and expanding the possibilities of what I could experience in life. Being a normal every day person can be exhilarating and wonderful! I didn’t consider back packing through Europe until college. When I did realize it was a possibility, I took 20 units every quarter, enrolled in summer courses every year and graduated a year early with 2 degrees. I did it so I could work Senior year 12 hours a day as a breakfast and dinner waitress to afford a summer in Europe. I’ve ridden on the back of a motorcycle through Paris, watched the sunrise on a beach in Barcelona, sat atop a roof top garden of a private club in London, been lost in Venice, etc, etc. Set your goals high and be willing to work hard so you can find yourself wanting more out of every second of life. Start living with the attitude there isn’t enough time and money to do everything life has to offer but you sure are going to give it your best shot. You don’t get back the carefree answer only to yourself time you have during college and your early twenties. I envy you and I’m happy for you, be happy for yourself it will change the course of your life in a hurry! Seize every chance to discover yourself and find what makes YOU revere life. You won’t get this time back:)
